In re: to the coach switching I would imagine all age groups are coached to play the same way as I think all the teams play/have played 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 so far which will help them when it comes to the final step up to first team football. I guess it has its merits learning one system but through different personalities (coaches) but I'd like to see some flexibility in the way way play growing up as it can't be that detrimental to the youngsters to learn new formations and ways of playing.

Strange we havent made space for him at Finch Farm really, barring this result i would imagine hed be decent to get such a role at newcastle.
Obviously he is employed as a head coach and not as a DEFENSIVE coach:celebrate:

Ya was trying to rack my brains there and couldn't ever remember him having a coaching role at everton which is usual because we have a great record of employing past players, which is brillant in my opinion,so maybe he wanted a break from merseyside or he could be married to a geordie lass:)

He was our manager for a short while between Royle and Kendall.

Your right lad.forget he took over for the final few weeks of the season in '97 think it was?
Not so good with dates these days although my partner is amazed at the trivia I can recall. However Wikipedia says you're right!

Looking at Toffeeweb, it also says he was player-coach under Smith and coached the reserve team with Viv Busby, but I don't remember that. Overseas before the days of the interwebs...

Joe Williams has revealed how David Unsworth has tasked his Under-21 side with lifting as much silverware as possible this season.

The young Blues take on Brighton & Hove Albion at Southport on Tuesday with a place in the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup at stake.

Already through to the Lancashire Senior Cup final and the semi-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup, the Toffees are also fourth and rising in the Premier League table.

And while it is only February, captain Joe Williams explains how trophies have been talked about as real objectives.

Ahead of Tuesday’s 7pm kick-off against the Seagulls, the 19-year-old toldevertontv: “Unsy has told us about good groups where a few of them make it into the first team - they win things first.

“We think we’re a good group and we have players who can make that step up.

“Unsy has told us we should be challenging for trophies and we should be winning things – so no matter if it’s the Senior Cup, the league or the Premier League Cup, we’ll look to go far in them all.”

The Under-21s are currently unbeaten in their last eight matches – winning six – and will look to add to that tally against Brighton before league clashes with Southampton and Middlesbrough later this month.

That momentum, Williams admits, is driving the youngsters on in their quest for glory.

“We want to keep kicking on. We want to win silverware and Unsy has set us the target of finishing in the top two in the league, so we want to get up there now.

“We’re going to look to keep playing the way we’re playing and get this unbeaten run going a bit longer.”

Season Ticket holders and FOREVERTON members can get free entry to Tuesday's match at Southport, with admission otherwise priced at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
