Everton Youth Teams Thread

not good enough, connolly hopefully be a lot better

Saw him for Fulham the other day.
Looked completely un interested in defending, tracking back or fighting for the ball.
Only seemed interested if an overlap was on or it was a chance to go forward.
Seems to be going backwards with this loan me thinks.
Although maybe he just hasent got the right team around him to show abit of grit or fight!
Its all about the club you loan them to and possibly we have messed this loan up

yeh he'll go the same way as lundstram (whos loans we also messed up) and move on, at a higher level to him though.

Some great posts this morning, and someone somewhere has said everything I wanted to say!!
. Antony Evans also could be in the frame though he can seem to play in more positions IE. Upfront and in wide areas.
Just another point about Ledson & Walsh. I think Tom Davies will also be in the mix with these two.

I thought it was Evans because of the timing i.e. Martinez said it when Evans came on the scene , Dowell was on the scene last season. But the other night he was moved to play a 10 position as opposed to usually being on the right, despite being left footed. So could be either, but I'm still leaning towards Evans.

I dont see Walsh as competition for Ledson in a DM role , he offers something slightly different , as others have said. Tom Davies on the other hand is following "the Ledson path" - strong performances as a DM at young age for u21, captain of England u17/18 . He's really taken over Ledson's role along side Joe Williams for the u21 s. It will be interesting to see how often we switch formations between 4231, 433 etc to accommodate the differing players we have as midfielders both defensive and attacking.

Exciting times and some of these lads look special, but the same criteria as always, not all will make it and people should go back to post No1 on this thread everyso often and see the exciting names we had then ....and where they are now.

Oh well thats a good question. That could be a short or a long response really.

Ledson is far more functional and probably ready to step up sooner. Watching him play was often like watching a young Rodwell play (as a 15-16 year old). He is over 6 ft and got an athletic build, and a good array of long passing. Unlike Rodwell he has a really nasty streak too him which I always felt Rodwell lacked and never developed.

Walsh is very small. When I first saw him I though he looked like a Leon Osman type who picked up clever positions. Lesson has a good passing range but Walsh's is ever better with both feet. There was an under 18's derby against Liverpool which we won 5-0 and Walsh just ran the game. I have never really seen Ledson do that.

Having said that he is a little further away because of his lack of height and physical presence, these things do matter. I would hope Ledson may be able to step up next season and have a similar role to what Browning/Galloway have had this season.

Walsh is a bit trickier. It may be a bit longer until we see him as I think they will want him to either grow a little more or get get more experience of mens football.

I am not sure Ledson will ever be a Barry type player. There is a lot of the young Gerrard about him and like Gerrard he will probably be best as more of a box to box midfielder. Walsh has the technical skill but you can't discount Barry's physicality in replacing him.

I suspect Ledson may step up this summer and he will need too really. With Gibson likely moving on, Cleverley/Barkley looking better in advanced roles and Osman's minutes being limited it will be a big opportunity for him.

Interesting as always mate.
Looks like with Ledson -- Walsh -- Davies and the chap who was linked to united we may have a few players to come through here over the next 2-3 seasons and hopefully add to the local flavour.

Dowell and Evans also hopefully coming in at attacking midfield and perhaps Kenny and Holgate (amongst others?) Could see us with possibly 8 players trying to force their way into the first team squad.

What do you make of Kenny and Holgate now, do you think either could be ready to follow from Browning and Galloway next season?

I think if both came into the squad as right backs then we would hae cover for Coleman which i think is also very important.

All these players if good enough could really help us with squad building now the older ones are about to leave + allow Martinez to use his resources on larger transfers than simply padding out the squad.

Thats fhe name i was looking for, Joe Williams.

If he,Ledson, Davies and Walsh can offer something to the first team squad over the next 2-3 seasons as well as Evans and Dowell further forward then that is alot of central options we would have.

Really keen to see Holgate and Kenny come through also.

If you were going to predict any of them to make it into the squad and add value which do you think is most likely of them or do you think we could have a few of them?

It will be interesting to see who makes it from that group. I can't see them all making it as there just isn't the space.

Kenny is doing really well in League 2, I'd like to see him stay their for the rest of the season. Holgate I'd say is a bit ahead of him. He's a bit quicker and classier than Kenny from what I've seen of them.

A lot will depend on whether Martinez wants to add in that area. The fact we tried to sign Byram doesn't bode so well for them though.

Williams is an odd one, he's older than all the others and has never been out on loan or played for the England youth but he seems to have really come on this season. Unsworth was saying he had told Williams he needs to score more and he's suddenly getting on the score sheet quite often too.

Any word on David Henin ?

Seems to have fallen off the Radar considering the effort we put in to sign him it would be massively disappointing if he does not make the grade

Thing with that was he was playing as a wing back so defending wasn't priority

Yeah that was Joe Williams , the other DM when we play 4231, or part of a midfield 3 . he gets some good mentions here , but as a MF rarely the excitement generated by Evans, Dowell, Davies, Walsh and Ledson . In any other era he may well have been very much more highly rated. He's probably got as much if not more dog in him as Walsh and Ledson, rarely shirks a challenge and as captain of the u21s he's shone as a leader and player. He's the kind of guy who gives his all and you want to do well. We often talk about the fact its not just talent that youngsters need to make it but application , sticking with it, hard graft etc, you get the feeling Williams has a lot of the later even if at times he will be outshone by his more naturally talented peers.
The other thing that gladdens my heart when I hear the likes of Williams, Dowell and Walsh etc being interviewed by Everton Tv is their scouse accents !
Edit : Mrs blueloon inerupted my typing hence post looks a bit out of sequence now!
