Everton Youth Teams Thread

It looks like the U18 have won their first U18PL match away to Reading 1-0 , which is a good result as they beat Chelsea in the Youth Cup recently. City beat Chelsea 4-3 also.
Sadly it does little to lift the gloom after our first team's 2nd half performance , but well done the youngsters.
I just pretend the U18s are the first team. Can't believe we might actually win the league this season, boss isn't it.

Was trying to find about any games today on Twitter. Seems to be no information when we play away which is really poor.

When the fixtures came out, I thought our first game was city away. Very good start though

Fixed.
Think you need to expand your horizons a bit mate - I'm looking for a treble with the u21s winning Lancashire Senior Cup and Liverpool Senior Cup! Mind you this thread could be filled with people having a major" Unsy Fume " if we lose to the RS.

We're piss poor with our home information too. You are right in that we should have played City at home last Saturday but it didn't happen and nothing on our site. I checked the City site and it showed they had a FA Youth Cup game on the Monday, and on their site our fixture had been moved to April so I presumed the cup game had caused the postponement.

Sounds like you really rate Ledson very highly of you think he can be "superior" to where barry is now in a couple of years time?

He seemed to be getting fantastic reviews at cambridge but then a few people commenting "what does he actually do" as per the on loan thread.

What do you think he could bring to the table? As for Barrys role acting as a pivot we could do with a Busquets replica.

I think Ledson has the potential to be a superior player to the current abilities of Barry. A lot will depend on his development. He is 18 still and playing a lot of league football which is very positive for him. I think that has to contrasted to a Grant, who is 20/21 and doesn't have much improvement time left to stake a claim.

As for what he can bring, a lot of this is really based on potential. I think he is slightly taller and more mobile than Barry now is. He could cover ground better and probably chip in with some goals. He also has a decent passing range. It's clear from Cambridge he has abilities well beyond that level, but does need to work on consistency.

He could certainly play in the double pivot but don't see him as a Barry replica (certainly not later Barry). He's more like a young Steven Gerrard for me, a good long range shot, strong tackler and can strike a ball from distance in terms of passing and shooting. He will be best if used in more of a box to box role making use of his competitiveness and engine.

He is also a bit like a Rodwell, but does possess a nastier streak to him, but perhaps not as good at ticking possession over as Rodwell was who had fantastic ability in that area.

Let's see some of them on our bench instead of virus or injured players!
Know it is impossible and will never happen but i would love to see 2 of our young lads on the bench every week.cruising a game(i know ain't been happening this season) throw one of them on last ten mins or your one down on occasion take a chance with a young striker.could end up having a rochford impact for that moment or that young lad for city(wont even try to spell his name but starts with an i:))

Amongst other things the lack of bench time for youngsters has been a big disappointment this season - Holgate had I think 2 bench spots but no appearance, Pennington got a half in one of the cup games but that's about it . Very poor particularly as one cup match was at home to the bottom team in the league.

I don't see us throwing in an out an out young striker this season, Brewster is still very much work in progress , Broadhead too . Interestingly though Rashford's goal scoring record in the u18 league is easily surpassed by Brewster and Broadhead, but Van Gaal obviously saw something and his goals have been more about positioning , right run to the right place rather than out and out power. Talk on Anthony Evans has quietened of late but he got the winner on Saturday, making 8 goals in 8 starts for the U18s. Again he's got a lot of developing to do , is not an out and out striker but he has this ability of being in the right place and right time to score goals too.

All too often when pitched in youngsters show too much enthusiasm and are forever making runs into impossible positions or chase the ball about , get frustrated and clatter someone getting a yellow. On the other hand they bring in a different, vibrant energy and athleticism which can lift a team. With four of our best youngsters out on loan Its hard hard to tell if anybody will get a chance this season, maybe Dowell. I'm looking forward to tonight's match against a Sunderland team which on paper is better than ours, not sure of team but the Tom Davies/Joe Williams partnership if they play DFM will be worth watching.

Do you forecast Martinez putting many of the younger guys in next season?

Do you forecast Martinez putting many of the younger guys in next season?
Well I keep out of the general Martinez fume , but must admit he baffles me re philosophy on youngsters. First season, Stones & Ross came through, 2nd Galloway & Browning given a chance. This season nothing .....so far. You could divide this into a number of aspects re next season,I'll try two , Martinez and Players .

Martinez. You have to conclude that he's just too conservative in progressing youngsters as opposed to his tried and trusted "oldies" . Best example was Hibbert at left back instead of Garbutt last year, whatever you think of Garbutt , at the time he deserved that chance. Hopefully we will move the likes of Gibson, McGeady , Hibbert on at season end , Osman will probably go into our coaching set up. So a glimmer of hope that more spaces are potentially available for younger players next season if he changes his philosophy and promotes them.

The Players. Well we've done individuals on here many many times so no point in repeating. Let's be really harsh. It's generally accepted that good as some are we don't have any in the 19 plus age group who look ready to push for a starting spot, and many will be moved on this summer. ( Holgate &Williams are two exceptions still in the mix at 19) . So let's give Martinez a benefit of the doubt with a general statement that 19+ not good enough, 18 year olds is where the talent is but maybe some not ready yet.
Next season this changes, they'll all have had another year of growing , development and in many cases loan experience. It would be inconceivable for me that at least 3 or 4 don't get a chance from preseason and then the season itself. I've no idea just how good they can be at PL level , but weve got at least 9 players showing tenacity, maturity, athleticism , deft skills right across the board. You name it one of them has got it. You can't call them "The Golden Generation" and sit and watch them age , like me, into the Silver Generation

If he doesn't give them a chance next season it will, in my eyes, define him as a manager who's not appropriate for our club. Actually I'd include any manager of our club in that statement .
