Everton Youth Teams Thread

Excellent result tonight well deserved win. Some great play from youngsters weve seen before like Brewster and Broadhead and was very impressed with Baningime having only seen him in bits of scraps before . Thought a few others like Morris showed up well but for me unfair to say any more given difficulty in identifying players.

Ill do a more thorough analysis a bit later, but you are right about Baningime, I thought he was very impressive today and a bit of a standout. Seems to love protecting the back 4 which is a good quality.

Also thought Yates had a solid game at right back and positioned himself well.

By winning the group Everton don't have to play the highest-seeded team in the semifinals, like they did as the wild card last year.

A matchup with the USA U20 would be interesting for selfish reasons.

.....it really does take time to acclimatise and I see our lads growing into this tournament. Last nights performance was much better than the opening game but that's what happens in tournament footy. The score line doesn't particularly reflect their total dominance and my fear was they didn't put the game to bed earlier but it turned out well.

Brewster is probably lining himself up as one of the players of the tournament but I have been most impressed with Baningime. His composure stood out against Tigres, that wasn't as obvious last night but he demonstrated real desire and athleticism. On one occasion in the 2nd half he sprinted back to support the back four, literally bouncing through 3 tackles. Amazing effort given the heat and schedule of games.

He went on a lung bursting run as well eggs 2nd half after nicking the ball in our half from them. Him, Broadhead and Brewster all stood out for me. The fitness of the players, them 3 in particular was outstanding considering the conditions.

They look like a good hard working group of players fighting for each other. I hope Brewster continues to develop and doesn't change his style of play, constant runs, always looking for the ball, always chasing down plus has a finish in him. Looks to be a very good prospect though don't want to big them up too much too soon!

What's the background with the lad Baningime? Not heard him mentioned until this cup. Has he been a regular for us at youth level or did we sign him in from somewhere?

Believe we picked him up from Congo about four years ago so he's been with us about 4 years. First year Scholar, so full time since July 15 , and has played regularly for u18 , usually in midfield 3 or 2 depending on set set up . Don't think he's got in a u21 squad, been impressive this tournament. You can detect a wee bit of scouse in his voice but not enough to be declared a native :)
Edit. Quick check seems we picked him up age 9
