Everton Youth Teams Thread

im looking forward to seeing how broadhead and brewster do for the u21s next season, for me they're already better than the 3 you mentioned.
in all likelihood they would be used this season for the u21s if the u18s didnt have so many games coming up especially with byrne and duffus injured again and rodriguez out on loan.

Well I hope so too. There does seem to have been a shift away from moving people up as quickly as before. It may be they wanted to give them a whole season in the under 18's. That seems sensible. I do think both will have to kick on quite quickly in the under 21's though.

Thnaks mate, I enjoys yours as well! Unfortunately I haven't really got to watch this age group anywhere near as much as I'd have liked or as much as Ledson's year.

Denny looks a really promising player. We always used to produce strikers but currently we keep churning out central midfield players! I always remember when we sold Jeffers and a young Rooney signed on the pitch shortly after and my dad said "don't worry about Jeffers this lad is the next cab off the rank". There was a time when it was like that for us. It seems that way with midfielders now. Ledson, then Walsh, then Williams and Davies doing well, and on last nights showing Baningame & Denny.

As for Brewster you are probably right. I remember him as a younger lad and he was a tiny slight thing. In the last couple of years he has really shot up and filled out. I really like Brewster and he's a good finisher. The concern I have with him, is why hasn't he dislodged some of the lads in the reserves?

...I'm sure Brewsters talent is known, I suspect the Stockport loan was an introduction to open age football and that he'll step up next season.

forgot about lavery too. reckon thats our best group of strikers/forwards in a while especially if evans in thrown in as well.

.....that surprises me because he doesn't look tall. I agree he uses his body strength very well.

*You're right, he's not as tall as Lees or Yarney, but he's very solid/muscular and he's not particularly short. From 100 ft away, where I was sitting, he looksed the part while Lees and Yarney both look like they have filling out to do.

we bought garbutt
Moyes brought Garbutt but Martinez gave him his debut and a reasonable amount if game time given our strength in the area.

Agree on Pochettino and LVG, they have given their academy players more gametime than Martinez. However this season the only players Koeman has given game to (in addition to Targett who we've already discussed) that I can find are

James Ward Prowse - first got his breakthrough under Pochettino and played most of the 13/14 league games. Fair play to Koeman for continuing to play him but would hardly say he has given him his start.

Mane 23 - brought from Salzburg last summer

Harrison Reed 21 - 20 mins in first two Europa league games and 10 mins vs Norwich in the league, otherwise nada.

Juammi 22 - brought from Malaga last summer.

Other than Targett honestly can't see that he has brought any academy players through - even on the periphery of the squad - who am I missing that makes you believe he is good at using the club youngsters?

didnt martinez play hibbert at left back rather than garbutt?
maybe koeman hasnt given that many a go this season and i shouldnt have included him though perhaps they dont actually have anyone that good at the minute, which looking at their u21 and u18 teams would appear to be the case.

I thoght that when someone mentioned Koeman bringing the kids through.
He has done very well at southampton but he has changed from the Pochetino model and bought in more squad players

He did play Hibbert vs West Ham - which annoyed the hell out of me and I posted what for me was an incensed rant at the time!

But a few days later he played Garbutt at left back away at Wolsburg, imo a much tougher and important game and he did excellently against De Bruyne and Perisic. Perhaps Martinez didn't think Luke was up for two physical games in a week after just starting? Which would be understandable although since Martinez gave Galloway his debut vs West Ham instead of Garbutt (BAines/Ovedio both injured) another theory is that he was concerned about the physicality and crosses of West Ham - Garbutt might have a weakness in the area, tbh a lot of our squad do.
