Everton Youth Teams Thread

This is the team sheet from the game before we lost our unbeaten run
O'Loughlin, Lees, Yates, Feeney, Bainbridge, Davies, Walsh, Dowell, Donohue, Evans, Brewster.

And from our most recent game
O’Loughlin, Yates, Harrington, Baningime, Lees, Yarney, Lavery, Kiersey, Brewster, Holland, Broadhead.

Only 4 players started both games. And arguably our best 4 in Evans, Walsh, Dowell and Davies have moved up a level.

11 Donohue (c)
1 O'Loughlin
2
Mellen
3 Yarney
4 Yates
5
Bainbridge
6 Kiersey
7
Bramall
8 Broadhead
9 Holland
10 Baningime

and heres the line up from our first game of the season, 7 the same and i think the other 3 are injured and donohue out on loan.

And just to throw in another variable..... the Manager. When Sheedy went away for his knee operations we embarked on a rotation system for the managers , with Tait, Doolan and Ebbrell all taking turns , maybe Jevons too? . It seemed to me to be an odd process , one designed to help the development of the coaches , which is admirable, but often stability is the key for the youngsters. A stable team that has gelled isn't often improved by bringing in "better" players e.g. The FA Youth cup defeat and we rarely see first teamers coming back in numbers and improving the u21s.

I didn't see the derby game, it seems we were beaten by a better team , shrug and move on. A poor result and inconsistency often happen at this age group level , sometimes for no apparent reason. We lost 8-0 at home to what on paper looked like an average Wolves side, then weeks later beat Newcastle away 8-0, all be it they went down to 10 men early on, with 8 players starting in both games. Even with Evans playing and scoring a hat trick you wouldn't have thought there'd be such a change. Just inconsistency to me.

A final point. How do you judge our Academy this year ? Well we currently sit at 4th in both u18 and U21 leagues, only Man City can also claim top four positions in both, Chelsea are close. If you somehow had a points system based upon finishing positions in both leagues I would guess that at the end of the season only Man City and Chelsea would finish above us , and we are all aware of the monetary policy both clubs apply .

I think we could have put out a totally different starting 11 on Saturday for the un18 derby . And a much stronger one, But like people have mentioned it's not all about the winning.
To be in the top 4 of the under 21's with most of the team being made up of 17/18 yr olds. And 3 of our best 18yr olds on loan, is very impressive. It's how they kick on now.

I heard the other day Chelsea have been in the last 5 youth cup finals. So the players in the first one, would be in the 21 to 23 age bracket. I can't think of one player that age knocking around their first team squad

They've got a quite a few who'd walk into most premiership sides. They can pull a team who'd hold there own in the premier league.

They also have a wage bill and price tags to reflect that despite them not being given chances at Chelsea, they would anywhere else bar maybe City.

I agree with all what's been said about winning etc, no one is genuinely that bothered usually howeverthe champions Lge spot available this year meant we were a bit more bothered than we normally are IMO.

We are also very bothered about the FAYC which is still the bench mark for academy sides and we yet again, we've been very dissapointing in this.

I wonder just how concerned we are about winning the FAYC. Sometimes we see some of our best players in that age group left out because they have moved to under 21s or maybe even on loan.
If we are ever serious about really winning this competition then we would need to always play our best players.
Remember back to when a young Rooney brought us all the way to a final with a mediocre team. I wonder if that would happen now.

we played a very strong team this year, u21 regulars connolly, walsh and evans all started. dowell on the bench.

I think it is important to note that the makeup of the U18/U21 teams have changed over the course of the season.

The very strong group that dominated U16/U18 tournaments has now broken through into U21 football or gone out on loan.

The U18 team is now very different to the one which started the season so strongly.

Rightly or wrongly the club don't prioritise winning these competitions but want players to move through the age groups. We could be fielding the likes of Walsh in the U18 league but what is the point when he can be one of the best players in League 2?

Look at the number of youth cups the likes of Chelsea have won. Great but no first team breakthroughs.

This is absolutely spot on. I haven't looked at the teams in detail (I may well do) but I am sure it will show us that the majority of Liveerpool players are a year or so older than ours. The blunt truth is, our best under 18's are playing in the under 21's and beating their under 21's, or out on loan.

Missing from the game against Liverpool (who are eligible) were: Connolly, Foulds, Walsh, Dowell, Evans, Donuhue, Davies. 7 outfield players. In essence we were playing Liverpool with a second string 11.

Never nice to lose a derby, but they looked far physically stronger than we are. It was a mis-match in truth. I though Baningame did ok. Don't read too much into results though, as our first choice 11 are not available.

Feeney as well who has been with the 21's and Bainbridge, though not seen his name around for a while I presume he's injured.

Couldn't actually bear to listen to the presser this morning, I can't listen to any of the utter trolling that comes from him.

That being said i am interested in the youth comment, reading reports this morning that Barkley and Lukaku could be rested - I am expecting Dowell to be one of the youth players given a chance - who do we think will be with him?
