Everton Youth Teams Thread

He's got to get game time at some point though doesn't he? Why not as a reward for playing so well recently when we've got a tight schedule and the rest of the team are playing like they've given up anyway. Out of the players you've mentioned, Kone is awful, Cleverley is injured, Niasse is unfit and Oviedo is a left back. And on top of that, Dowell has been playing as a number 10 recently so Barkley needing a rest/having a slight injury would actually be a perfect opportunity to give Dowell a chance with no pressure on him, but we'll likely play an unfit Barkley or a weird formation/players out of position instead.

We seem to be the only team in the league that played no youth players in the early cup games (apart from Pennington, who got dragged off at half time and then didn't start another game, then got sent out on loan to league 1 when he'd already won player of the year at a better league 1 club last season). I'm really starting to lose faith in Martinez's use of the academy.
I've got little to no faith in Martinez's use of the academy, you only need to take a look at Klopp and LVG to see what can be done in giving young players a chance. Martinez is far too conservative to do this as he places too much emphasis on experience.

Mate he played Galloway last season due to the contract mess that we found oursleves in with Garbutt and the fact it looked like in a few weeks he was off on a free, Garbutt would have signed a new contract earleir then he doesn't play galloway i am sure of that.

Did Browning improve that much over the summer - in which case why didn't he get maybe a few minute more here and their mate, and IF they don't get played ofc people are always going to assume they aren't good enough - but had anyone really heard of Rashford or their young fullback until they played him?

Who knows if Kenny or Ledson for example would have been able to play last season - developmentally those two and Gomes at the rs and Roberts (was Fulham now City) where all pretty much on a par at the end of the euro championship win, yet both Roberts and ceartainly Gomes pre injury had had their development handled far better, one was starting for a liverpool team in the league and the other has played games in the prem, cups and loaned to Celtic, our lads are basically playing in the 4th tier of English football atm

Can't check all the lads from that Euro team, but our two - one was the captain (Ledson) and the other was with Roberts the standout player of the side, and yet their progression since then is arguably going to be the weakest of any in that team

The lad they had upfront is at coventry on loan from newcastle banging them in.

Think solonke and izzy brown were in that team to and there playing regulary in the eredivise.

Onomah is starting to get game time at spurs and cook has been playing regulary for leeds some time now

There are questions to be asked but I don't agree it's with the players you've highlighted.

Kenny for me is the most likely to make the breakthrough, not Ledson who reminds of a smaller version of Conor Coady. I was hoping we'd go for Gomez straight after the Euros as I was certain he'd go on and make it at prem level.

Ledson is getting good experience at the right level for him, he may come back and surprise me but I doubt it. Kenny could and probably should be playing at least League 1 level, perhaps the club want him to be part of a successful team to foster a winning mentality. Overall I think the handling of both is reasonable for now.

Not sure what to make of Garbutt, he has done ok on loan but not well enough to suggest he could have done as well as Galloway in the 1st team.

I'm interested to see the treatment of Dowell, Connelly, Kenny and maybe even Evans in pre season. It will probably be up in the air if a new manager walks in. Koeman who has shown he'll look at youth is who i'd like if that was the case.

This for me at the moment:

Browning and Galloway both had games and i was also keen on Gomez too. Important to note Gomez and Galloway both were playing league football before moving on.

We can also look at kenny and ledson who are now getting games on loan. For me it looks like they would be more likely to push through next season after valuable experience this season.

Im not sure wh9 all these youngsters are who now would be first choices.

Everton u18s are 1-1 at the minute,we went 1-0 behind, then broadhead hit pen over the bar,But Lavery raced through one minute later and curler shot pass keeper

The manager certainly has to prove himself yet as being good enough to manage a club of the stature of Everton.

I don't think however that his ability to work with and promote youngsters from the academy can be questioned. In his tenure we have seen the development of Stones, Barkley, Lukaku and Deulofeu. All young players who have enhanced their reputation under RM.
From the academy we have seen Browning and Galloway and to a degree Garbutt move into first team reckoning.
Dowell will possibly be the next, but he is only eighteen still and very very few youngsters are ready to play at that level at so young an age.
I would like to see Dowell involved in the next couple of games , but I think that maybe we expect to much too soon from such a young lad. It looks as if he is going to be a really good player, but bringing him in too soon will not help him.
The coaches at senior and academy level will know if he is ready to be involved and we have to trust their judgement.
