Everton Youth Teams Thread

Re the U18 league and the UEFA Youth Champions League or whatever it's called, I believe we can qualify for this if the U18s finish 2nd and City win it. This requires us to win the two games left which won't be easy given that so far in this league we haven't appeared to dominate matches like we can . It also depends on Chelsea dropping points too.

I'm not absolutely sure about this , but the Youth CL is based upon the four teams from a country who qualify for the actual CL , plus the winner of the country's Youth League. (Too me it's crazy criteria and doesn't reward the clubs with good youth teams I.e. Leicester get in the Youth competition but we don't. ) Anyway , if City qualify for CL and win the Youth league then I believe the 2nd place team in the Youth League goes into the competition as well.

City are out mate, Chelsea play PSG in the final at 4 today.

It will be on BT.

I said it earlier in this thread but that Chelsea side is some youth side, they'd hold there own in the Premier League no problems.

They've dominated the youth cup for years which is the bench mark domestically, they won the champions lge last year and should do the same again this year. I think City will take them soon though.

In the lower age groups Chelsea aren't actually that good whilst City are just going form strength to strength.

I mentioned a couple of the top class City players at 16 are going to refuse contacts soon and today it's being reported that West Ham are after Campbell who is doing exactly that. He'd be a cracking signing for us if we could get in for him now.

Sorry if not clear , by this " I believe we can qualify for this if the U18s finish 2nd and City win it. " I meant City winning the u18 League, and assuming City qualify for the CL league.

Thanks for the Chelsea info,it's an interesting further option to get my brain around . If Chelsea youth do win this Final today , would that give them an automatic spot in next year's Youth competition, so If City win the U18 league and senior City qualify for the CL, do we get a spot if the u18s finish 3rd behind City and Chelsea ? Dont know the answer, but Spain had 6 representatives in the UEFA Youth League this year, and it may all be a bit pointless , but more positive than trying to work out if we'll finish 10, 11, 12 in the PL

Sorry for goin off topic but i just seen that courtney duffus is going to declare for the rep.of ireland team.no loss to england but he could be an alright player for ireland.:)

Being honest eggs, they've found out everything the need to know years before then.

As an example, our 2006 kids, the youngest we have, have been abroad on tours 5 times already this season and it would have been more if a trip to Belgium hadn't been cancelled at Easter due to the Brussels bomb.

By the time there 18 they've probably done 40-50 competitions abroad with us.

If a kid is a man at 15, I know nothing

Matty Pennington seems to be impressing whilst out on loan at Walsall, earning praise from their manager. Seems to have an excellent attitude for a young player which will stand him in good stead moving forward.

For the limited number of games that i've seen him play, he looks to be a Jagielka sort of centre half, and with Jags being 34 in August could get his chance soon. Big pre season ahead for him but I'm sure he's looking forward to the challenge.

I was surprised that Dowell wasn't even included in the squad for Southampton.

Proved he can play albeit in pre season with the first team, worked hard in the 21's for months, scored great goals, created chances from a number 10 position which the first team have struggled with, yet he still cant get an opportunity when were hampered by injuries.

I think Ossies been a great servant over the years but when were building for the future, in the remaining home games now that we haven't got much to play for in the league, It's an excellent chance to give the likes of Dowell, Connolly, Davies, Galloway, Holgate, Brewster, Broadhead, Evans some game time. I understand that not all of them will get a chance but the integration of them into the first team now, will make them ready to step up when required in the future.

You could say that Martinez needs to win games and is sticking by the experienced players, but if anything the fans are more understanding, more encouraging of the academy lads. One thing that is guaranteed, is that the lads who do play will work hard, get stuck in and wear the blue shirt with pride, just like any one of us would if we were on the pitch, which is a hell of a lot more than what Martinez is getting from some of his first team players at the moment.
