Everton Youth Teams Thread

Based on the way he's got these lads playing I'd have no problem giving Unsworth the caretakers role till the end of the season. They all worked for each other, pressed Leicester all over the park and played some lovely crisp, quick football.

Really enjoyed this game, it was a very good team performance with an outstanding performance from Dowell. He's come on a lot physically since I last saw him live. You won't see a better hat trick than this. He always had time and space, his awareness is superb. He's not the finished article but he should be getting some playing time between now and the end of season. I think he actually maybe Spanish!!

Putting Dowell to one side there were good performances all round. Pennington looks too good for this level, I don't think he'd let you down in the first team. Connolly played well at centre half and at left back. Davies was very good in midfield, looks to have a bit of everything. Williams played well but looked better when he got pushed a bit further forward in the second half. Jones played well on the right. Foulds looks like he has something about him, he played well at left back. Evans is only young he struggled up front and looked better when he dropped back to his natural position at no 10. It will be interesting to see what he looks like in 12-18 months time.

Looking at this I'd have Pennington, Connolly, Davies, Dowell and maybe Williams involved in the first team squad till the end of the season. But overall we've got some great lads here and a few of them have a chance. Factor in the lads on loan and the future looks bright just hope we have a manager who'll give some of them a chance.

I went tonight also ! was good game to watch and some quick interplay was class and should of finished off ! dowell first was a cracker he was looking to slip someone in i was looking to see who he could slip in and then dink ! the guy just has finesse! as above and also thought holgates cameo was good ! won some good headers and brought the ball out stones style a couple of times !

Interesting comments about Holgate, thanks. You would think he's fallen behind Connolly now in the CB stakes but maybe just a preference to have Connolly playing on the left CB , Pennington on the right. Still only 19 , lots of potential there and he's had some good reviews the last few games.

I'm advocating him (and Davies/Connolly etc. to be honest) being moved into the first team squad - game time can follow from that if possible. They are then first team options; right now, they are not, because they are not in the first team squad, and therefore can't be assessed as a first team option.

This is 1+1=2 stuff.

could you explain this first team squad you speak of? Dowell trains with the first team, has been a member of a matchday squad and is available for first team selection according to premier league rules.

It's a long way down from that high horse buddy, dont forget this came about because you claimed Oviedo was the only other player who could play No.10 that day.

I'm in the States, so it's possible this rumor/rumour got garbled crossing the Atlantic, but can anyone confirm this?

The story is that Martinez wanted to integrate Dowell into the squad over the past few weeks, but the FA mandated the player be forced to wear a blindfold and have his boots tied together, otherwise it was felt Everton would have an unfair advantage with him on the pitch.

Apparently Martinez was ok with those stipulations, but Kenwright felt it would be impolite to show up fellow Premier League clubs with such a player and nixed the move.

Can't wait to see Ossie get a run out Saturday instead of Dowell.

Talent like this needs to be nurtured by someone like De Boer, Stones and Barkley have regressed under Martinez.

Honestly, if that happens ill tear my hair out....

I am still struggling to think why he hasn't even gotten on the bench, he has been playing brilliantly since coming back from his injury and seems to have pushed on and is playing a level above the U21's now. His confidence levels are through the roof and does everything better week in week out.

How he hasn't been involved yet is mental.

IF Dowell doesn't get a start before the end of the season then you have to wonder what the bloody hell is the point in the youth system at all, if you show the kind of Form Dowell has pre injury and certainly post injury and still don't get a call up then where is the incentive to really push yourself in those youth games
