Everton Youth Teams Thread

Do you think ledson is more ready than Walsh, purely on size? I know its div 2 but going off their loans, I would say Walsh has stood out more.

I think he is and yes you are spot on for the reason you say, he is just much bigger. He is 6 ft plus and able to cover the ground. I'd happily have him in the side now.
Walsh definitely had the better of the loans. Ledson did well but Walsh really excelled. However I think we will see the best of him once he's 21 and fully developed.

I know it's almost unheard of, but a loan for Walsh to a lower level Spanish side would be great. Style of play is a great fit, and size is less of a concern in Spain.

Problem would be the language barrier. Sides at the bottom of La Liga/the league bellow that will have almost exclusively Spanish players. It would be difficult for him to communicate on the pitch and fit in off it.

i like dyson, works hard and his physique is awkward to deal with but cant see him ever playing in the premier league.
brewster maybe but hes barely even played u21 football yet, we'll see how he goes next season.
A good summary of those two. There are a few attacking players who failed to stand out at the u21s last season and didnt score enough goals - Dyson, Duffus, Henen , Leandro spring to mind. Their positions will be under pressure from Brewster, Broadhead and Holland next season, and I think these players will score more goals. The usual issue of do we continue to develop the older players or cut them to allow younger players to come through will be there.
The young player I'm really looking forward to seeing how he develops next season is Shayne Lavery, still only 17 , not an u21 regular, not even leading goalscorer at u18s. But he's got something about him in his goalscoring ability , directness and real pace to go past an opponent. He was probably our best player in the 0-4 mini derby defeat playing wide right. He's not really a winger as he drives past a defender and more inclined to head for goal than look to cross, and it's difficult to judge his pace against 18 year old defenders , but one to keep an eye on at 18/21 level next season.

It would be a very good idea for Walsh and I would like to see this happen more. Maybe this can be part of the new DOF mandate?

Walsh is going to need to be a very particular manager to give him an opportunity. In the modern premier league, there are a lot of managers who would not trust a 5 ft 8 slight lad in central middle field. People like big physical players who can cover the ground.

Ironically Martinez would have been the perfect manager for him. It will be interesting to see how het gets on with the new manager.
