Everton Youth Teams Thread

@LinekersLegs @Nymzee @kithnou

In his entire managerial career (including Ajax and PSV) i believe the only club where he played young players was at Feyenoord (who he left for Southampton).

This was due to them appointing him ( despite his last disasters at Valencia and AZ) because they were having a bad run in the league and had limited funds.

I imagine this is one of the reasons why southampton hired him as he was playing young players. He is not a long term manager though and only focuses on winning games -- meaning one game at a time and not looking at the longer term bringing though youth.

His signings are usuall 23 years old minimum so unless he has a mandate from moshiri i doubt many kids will be happy.

If I don't see the likes of Davies and Galloway given more exposure he will lose me fast.

Have the same bad vibe about his use of youngsters Zat, I did even before he was linked with us.

But he is Moshiri's choice and so we just have to hope that he not only recognises the importance of the academy but communicates that and where it fits into a long term plan to Koeman and he in turn buys into it. In fairness there seems to be a diminishing number of top flight managers that have a genuine interest in youth development.

Im actually very alarmed and confused why Koeman has been appointed when one of our main strengths is our young players.

I am just hoping that as some have had game time he may cast them a glance but doubt those likr ledson and walsh will see the light of day.

I doubt, for one reason or another, Koeman will be at the club for an extended period and if it is it will be because he has completely brought into a long term plan that you'd hope would include the academy.

At worst - lot of our most promising lads are still young enough that a period out on loan, although perhaps not ideal, would still provide good development.

In his defense though as far as I know (can't be bothered to google it right now) he brought a lot of kids through in his previous job at feyenoord who went on to be part of th Dutch side to get to the wc semis

True, just think most recent PL experience tends to be more telling.

Moirinho keeps on harking about how he introduced kids at Porto/Real Madrid but did sod all good for the Chelsea academy lads - walk the walk vs talk the talk!

Might just be the lads he had available at S'ton....guess we'll see!

Most new managers won't bring kids through as its deemed too risky. They get sacked after 5 mins these days so will naturally look more short term unfortunately. Once a manager establishes himself at a club and feels no pressure of the sack you might see them change their approach a bit.

Just playing devils advocate here but maybe there weren't enough decent quality in the youth sides of the clubs he didnt promote youth.
Southampton for example, they had already sold chambers & shaw who were there best 2 kids, and continued to give taggart and ward prowse game time. Would you push harrison reid or sam gallacher in ahead of pelle or long, or wanyama, davies, classie or romeu?

Possibly the best batch of kids he had were at feyernoord and he gave them all minutes. Classie, de vrij, martins indi, vilhena, kongolo, van beek, nelom, all got given there chance under koeman.

As you have said though that was under financial constrates, and im just playing devils advocate. Realisticly under any manager if we ended up just 1 or with davies, ledson, walsh and williams being first choice in centre mid for the club in the future we would be very lucky.
Look over at the RS were klopp has given plenty of kids a chance, he has also shipped out rossiter and sinclair for various reasons, 2 years ago these players were being touted for the first team
