Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yeh I mean really it's just a wait and see scenario but for all of Martinez's faults we hadn't seen such a well run academy until he arrived.
There's no doubt Marinez was highly supportive of the ACademy but the systems, FF etc where in place before he arrived and the players were coming through. Alan Irvine was a big factor in bringing innovation and development to our Academy, and our current coaches have built things up nicely.
I think we'd all be hugely disappointed if Koeman doesn't continue to develop our young players and relys solely on Moshiri's money. But if we look at the 3 clubs with the most money City, Chelsea, Utd they , apart from us of course , have the strongest Acadamies , although I don't really want us to go the way of City and Chelsea and buy in youth. My point is that even when you have money there is also a necessity to develop youth.

Agreed but whilst they have the strongest academies I'd say they also have one of the most undefined pathways into the first team. From City this season who've we seen? Iheanacho and Celina? They have some brilliant players like Manu Garcia, Aleix Garcia & David Faupala that we haven't really seen. Obviously they're all really young but would be worth seeing if in a few years they ever make appearances.

Just playing devils advocate here but maybe there weren't enough decent quality in the youth sides of the clubs he didnt promote youth.
Southampton for example, they had already sold chambers & shaw who were there best 2 kids, and continued to give taggart and ward prowse game time. Would you push harrison reid or sam gallacher in ahead of pelle or long, or wanyama, davies, classie or romeu?

Possibly the best batch of kids he had were at feyernoord and he gave them all minutes. Classie, de vrij, martins indi, vilhena, kongolo, van beek, nelom, all got given there chance under koeman.

As you have said though that was under financial constrates, and im just playing devils advocate. Realisticly under any manager if we ended up just 1 or with davies, ledson, walsh and williams being first choice in centre mid for the club in the future we would be very lucky.
Look over at the RS were klopp has given plenty of kids a chance, he has also shipped out rossiter and sinclair for various reasons, 2 years ago these players were being touted for the first team

Ths southampton fans werent naive enough to think the kids were better than the starters. The reason why they were disappointed is that the kids will only improve with game time and koeman was unwilling to give them a reasonable amount of time.

For the youth he publically came out and said they were all rubbish which is quite shocking even if true. Totally demotivating.

Also two seasons on the trot they lost most of their games in nov and dec but he was unwilling to give anyone a chance.

Article on Koeman's view on Saints academy players (specifically U21's i.e. closest to first team).

He said this: “I wasn’t impressed, no,” he said. “I look to the development of young players and still they have to learn a lot and [they are] still not on the level what you need for Premier League.

“But that’s young players, they need time, it’s more difficult to come in the first-team of Southampton than it was four years ago.”

The bit in bold is what worries me the most as he's basically saying it's harder to get into now because they've bought better players to fill in the places. Makes it sound like if your Kenny's aren't as good as your Coleman's they don't have a chance.

I agree with you however I think a lot will depend on other factors such as the length of his contract & the targets set by moshiri relative to the deadline for achievement of them targets.

I welcome the thought hypothetically of a manager being told he has to get us into the champions league within 3 years or he will either be sacked or his contract not renewed.

However there conundrum is the young players if moshiri is going to heavily pressure Koeman which 7 million per year suggests he will then either our young players are going to have to hit the ground running straight away to get game time or Koeman is going have to be very brave.

Personally I'm not fixated on the transfer budge, initially I want to see what proper coaching & game management can do to a massively under achieving squad. I'd rather spend £100 million on 3 players at the most & give 3 or 4 youngsters 20 games each than buy average players who will just get in the way of dowell, Kenny Davies etc

Yeh I think a lot of people are thinking if we sign 5 good players we'll automatically play better when in reality it's down to the manager and the coaches to ensure that. City's squad is amazing and they finished 4th. People are expecting miracles from us next season I fear whereas I just want to see improvement and hungrier, more focused players.

The thing is he is right to say this. Just as Moyes was right when he said it about us.

It is far easier to put young players in when you have no other options or when the league placing doesn't matter. When you look at make up of the England team you'll see a lot of them came through lower league clubs where they got a lot of games when they were U20.
Hart - Shrewsbury
Walker / Clyne - Sheffield United /Palace
Rose - Leeds
Smalling - Maidstone
Stones - Barnsley
Ali - MK Dons
Sterling - QPR
Dier - Sporting
Vardy - non-league
Kane - Tottenham
Rooney - Everton

The only ones who didn't in that line up are Rooney (who was world class at 16) and Kane (who had a few seasons out on loan)

And while I don't know their backgrounds the names seem to say it all , compare those five to our four scousers and a lad from Warrington making PL starts :)

Completely agree everyone saying we need a left mid. Yes we could do with one no doubt, however we have a fanatastic left midfielder already one who did something last season I didn't see any other player do in the whole league, that is literally skin Kante of Leicester.

We really only need top class players in champions league standard players which will prove problematic but not impossible.

If the manager gets the current players playing at max potential then we don't need too much

Feel like I'm being dense but which left mid are you referring to here?

But would you honestly play harrison reed ahead of wanayama, davis, ward prowse, classie or romeu

I am 100% in agreement that we need to give 5 or 6 of our kids squad places n hopefully plenty of game time, but its unrealistic to think we can bring 8/9 through

Their fans dont think so either but expect them to get a few games here and there or how to ever improvr?

England u18s lost to South Korea 2-0 Friday and 3-0 yesterday. No details on the 2nd game but in 1st game Tom Davies was captain and payed full game, Evans played 68 mins, Holland was an unused sub.
Out in Mexico England U19 lost 2-0 at the weekend, Kenny played the 2nd half, Ledson 1st half plus on again at 75 mins, Connolly played 75 mins before being replaced by Jordan Rossiter. It would appear from the team sheet that Ledson and Connolly played together in a midfield 3 . Amazing versatility from Connolly that's 5 positions he's played in the last month, and a good confidence boost , plus experience, to be selected in midfield , though he's played there in the past.
