Everton Youth Teams Thread

Wonder if Koeman was there ?
Would hope so, chance to see likes of Garbutt, etc who he will need to figure out what he does with him , sell or loan. Maybe he'll get them to YouTube games to the public like Southamton used to .I don't know the quality of the Oldham team but it's another great win for the youngsters with some of our key young midfielders involved and the Feeney/Foulds partnership back in harness.
Nice to see Ledson stepping up again with the penalty and 1st of the shootout scores.
I wonder where Kenny and Brewster are , I'm presuming injured along with Connolly? , but it would be nice if the OS provided a bit more info on the u23injuries.

Great job by the young lads / Unsy and the staff !
I really hope Holgate / Davies get some decent time with the first team this year. Think they are both gems.
Holgate will be better than Stones IMO

There's not been much info on the u18's who kick off the Regional stage of the u18 PL tomorrow away to Newcastle - I've seen nothing about pre season games only a mention of a training camp.

It's also difficult to pick out any outstanding individuals from the 2016 Scholars, last year Anthony Evans was raining in the goals in pre season. Of the new scholars listed , Alex Denny from his Dallas exploits and Fraser Hornby from Scotland u17 games are the only two I've caught glimpses and both look to be promising midfielders for their age. Jordan Corke and Manasse Mampala are two names who featured in u18 squads last season and Nathan Baxter is the defender who joined us from Vitesse Arnhem, apart from these they're pretty much unknown to me .

From last year's first year scholars , i.e. still eligible for u18 s, Evans, Feeney, Baningime and Lavery emerged as the best prospects and subsequently featured at u23 level pre season. Given the strength of the u 23 s a couple of these are also likely to feature for the u18s and I'd imagine all four in the FA Youth Cup.
Of the rest still eligible from last year, Callum Lees who moved from RB to CB , and Jack Kiersey in midfield seem to offer the most promise of being able to kick on this season. Maybe Corke/Lees will be the two CBs who knows , while not quite as exciting as the PL kicking off it'll be exciting to see if any emerge as future stars in the games ahead.

Young Blues suffer defeat.

Everton Under-18s began the 2016/17 Under-18 Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle United.

The young Blues, who enjoyed a fruitful campaign that included winning the Dallas Cup last year, suffered late heartbreak as an 80th-minute goal earned the Magpies all three points.

In a tight and cagey opening, both sides struggled to find their rhythm with chances few and far between.

It was therefore no surprise that the game remained goalless at the half-time interval.

It was a case of more of the same for Kevin Sheedy’s side in the second half as further promising build-up play was let down by a lack of composure in the final third.

Then, just at the contest looked as thought it was heading for a goalless draw, the hosts struck with 10 minutes remaining.

A long punt forward was only half-cleared and the resulting ball from the right flank found an unmarked Newcastle striker, who controlled and bobbled the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Speaking after the game, coach Sheedy told evertonfc.com that he expects more from his young side in the coming weeks.

He said: “We can do much better. It’s disappointing because we’ve worked on attacking play quite a lot in pre-season, but today we found it frustrating in the final third.

“Then, to concede with a long ball is also disappointing as we’ve spent a lot of time in pre-season working on defensive play as well.”

Next up for Sheedy’s side is a home game against Manchester City, which the Irishman believes will be a tough test for his side.

He added: “The overall performance today was okay, though, and I’m sure the results will come. Man City will be a tough test next weekend - we just need to work hard in training this week and go again next weekend.”

Everton Under-18s line-up: Renshaw, Ouzounidis, Lees, Harrington, Morris, Duke-McKenna, Scully (Hornby, 60), Denny, Withe (Mampala, 60), Lavery, Bramall.

A hell of a lot of potential in that team. Good to see we're not just giving unwanted squad players a game instead of the kids too.

Interesting to see which kids aren't there too. No Garbutt. No Leandro.
