Everton Youth Teams Thread

davies, evans and holland in england u19 squad for upcoming matches
They've all moved up from u18s, so expect Connolly, Kenny and Ledson to move up to u20s , and Dowell too if they fit his style into the team. Also Feeney up to u18s?, presumably Holgate up to u21s and hopefully Galloway makes a start thus time. At least one u 20 game v Brazil on BT Sports don't know about any others.

Was at the game tonight. Very strong line-up, and deserved winners after bossing much of the game and going close numerous times towards the end. In regards to Davies and Dowell, it wasn't overly noticeable that they were the star players on show, although Dowell has these moments of magic which open up a defense. Davies didn't have the best of games with his partner in midfield Liam Walsh probably MOTM for me. Extremely tidy player with a bit of feistyness to go with it. Kenny and Connolly were particularly solid also at the back. Kenny reminds me of Gary Neville a little bit, but if i was to say out of the two of them who looks a better chance to break through properly in the future, i'd go with Connolly. As has already been said, Charsley was in the right place in the right time, mainly drifting in from the right hand side and getting involved with Dowell and Henen, and his finishers were nicely taken.

It will be interesting now to see which of these boys go out on loan and at what level. I'd imagine Walsh, Connolly, Kenny will be put out to Championship/League 1. Charsley possibly to League 1/2 as i'm not sure he's been out on loan yet? A judgement will have to be made on Davies and Dowell in regards to how much involvement they are likely to get with the first team. We have an abundance of Centre-mid's in the youth set-up's with Williams and Ledson not featuring tonight (injuries?) and Baningime also coming through, which might allow Davies to go out to the Championship (Unsy won't want ALL his players going out on loan!). Some of the other lads e.g. Robinson, Duffus might get a chance to go to League 1/2 if its deemed the talent below is ready physically to step up, but in previous years this has been the norm so i wouldn't be surprised if we see 5 or 6 of them heading out in the next couple of weeks.

Would recommend going down to watch at Southport in the future to anyone who's thinking about it.

A bit late from me but thanks for that, always good to get the views of somebody at the game. Interesting comments about Connolly and Kenny, both have good footballing ability and brain and have shown this throughout their age groups ... maybe a Holgate type growth spurt in physicality is all that is needed for them both to push on.

As ever I was impressed with Unsy in his post match interview. He knows how we wants them set up and how they should play and obviously communicates it well to the youngsters. Jones and Robinson have provided stability at full back but he's used a number of CB combinations, all very effectively. Two more games in quick succession will test them , particularly against Bolton. In the same way we discuss the best development plan for the youngsters , I wonder what the best plan for Unsy is. This season he's bound to come onto the radar of lower league clubs searching for a new manager so it may be tempting for him to move on and gain managerial experience. Equally , you would imagine that after 3 years is up RK will either be shown the door or move onto another club if he's successful. It would be good to think that Unsy becomes part of the future Moshiri plans somehow, not just for sentimentality but because of the ability he is showing with the u23s.

SAM ROSE HAPPY WITH EVERTON OPPORTUNITY
Sam Rose’s men went down 3-1 to the Toffees but he says he is simply delighted with the opportunity.

“We were invited by Everton to play an under 17s and 16s fixture on Friday and we jumped at the chance, it isn’t every day that you get the opportunity to face a category one club, let alone someone like Everton who provided a really good challenge for the players.

“We got beaten 3-1, it was 3-0 at half time, I gave the boys the challenge of trying to improve in the second half which we did, which was pleasing.

“Credit to Everton, sometimes when you play bigger clubs they play younger players but they asked for an under 17s game and they put under 17s out, first year scholars and a couple of under 16 players, pretty much the same as we were ourselves, we also got the opportunity to play a couple of under 15s who have been doing really well so average we were probably younger.

“It isn’t about the result; it was a great opportunity to test ourselves against a big club who spend a lot of money on their development programme and in patches we matched Everton and caused them problems, which was encouraging.”

Rose also believes that the young Brewers will take a lot of positives from the game that will help with their development.

“It was disappointing in the first half with them scoring three goals and not managing to notch ourselves. The performance was probably different to what the score line suggest, which the boys should take confidence from.

“We played better in the second half, when we stepped it up, we were more aggressive, winning the ball higher up and playing some much better, higher tempo, football which is really important for them to be successful in the youth alliance and beyond.”

Ledson to Oxford confirmed for 3 years. Really shocked by this tbh thought maybe just a loan. Strange one I expect us to potentially rue. Hopefully some words from the manager/Rhino on this.

as long theres buy back and sell on clauses its not that strange i dont think. just didnt progress from 16-19 but still time for him to develop elsewhere. we have davies, walsh, baningime and williams all around his level.
maybe he has asked for the move himself and he'll have lundstram there to help him.

Goal! #LCFC U23s 0-3 #EFCU23. Sub @AntonyEvans_8 heads in @harrycharsley's cross with 10 minutes to go. #PL2

So Charsley scores 1 and two assists

Goal! #LCFC U23s 0-4 #EFCU23. It's a fourth and a deserved one for @Calum_Dyson9 on 90 minutes as he converts a @GethinJones8 centre. #PL2

Charsley is 9 , 10 months older than Ledson and seems to have really come on in the past year playing everywhere from full back , midfield and forward . Not sure if he's going to break into the first team squad anytime soon but...... I personally think Ledson was worth hanging onto for another year , big changes can occur at 19 ish.

Morgan Feeney has been called up for the England under 18's squad. Seems to be progressing well through the academy, like many of our defenders.

And other squads announced too .:
U21 , Galloway and Holgate in a defense that looks like it comprises of players who have all played in the PL so tough to get in there.
U20 , the usual suspects of Connolly , Kenny, and Ledson now joined , at last, by Kieran Dowell.
U 19 posted previously , Davies , Holland and Evans.

Can't help but think that if Oxford had a 19 year old England u 20 player in their team that PL clubs would be looking to pick him up. For his sake, I hope the Ledson deal comes back to bite us.
But great news for Kieran Dowell and all the others selected.
