Everton Youth Teams Thread

seems to have a goal in him, when he played for scotland in the euros in the summer looked an out and out defensive midfielder and didnt really get forward.
As far as I can tell from clips/reports Fraser Hornby's still playing DFM for Scotland, U19s now though so must be one of their youngest, I don't think they have u18s. Believe he's played twice svoring once for them recently, don't want to make too much from SFA extracts but he seems to have added a bit of confidence and composure to his game , giving instructions, playing the ball out from the back. He started off the move with some composed play that lead to a goal which is being described as the best goal Scotland have scored at any level recently ..... I know, let's not go there!

Re the u18 , at this level it pays dividends if you can play the same back four regularly, as per Saturday . Plus Beni and Kiersey have also featured together in our best recent results. So when Denny and Hornby are added it really only left Bramall and Lavery who you'd describe as "attackers". So I'm thinking that Sheedy either played him further forward maybe in Evans' role or allowed him to go forward more from midfield. Whatever it was it worked with 4 goals!

We know that youngsters sometimes have these goal spurts at u18 level , then quietly slip back, so it'll be a bit of time before we can judge him fully. But with 7 goals this season Hornby and Lavery are now our joint top goal scorer, not a bad return from a midfielder. He's also in the Scotland squad for their next game, think that's next weekend.

My older brother watched an under 23 game v Man U the other week thought this lad has all the makings of a Bobby Collins midfielder
any views on him? high praise evidently RK, and his brother were there as this lad dominated the midfield!

Only watched him live a few times, but always been impressed
For me he's the best talent we have coming through. The fact he's only 5"6 means one or two others have got around the 1st team before him.
Saw the Utd game on mu tv. Walsh gave the ball away twice and that was when playing balls from the half way line into the Utd box.

Really hoping he gets a chance this season. I put the other day, he seems to be training with 1st on a regular basis now

....yep, we all like him and have high hopes for his future, Joey. I like comparisons with others, it's not to say they will achieve the same level but it reflects the same type. I watched a bit of Bobby Collins at a very young age but not enough to form a view but I do know how highly he was rated so as always your brother provides valuable insight.

Fingers crossed for young Walsh but it's a massive step up.

I asked my older brother about Collins, and Bally totally different players in style but with the same out come domination of the midfield both scored goals for fun - Bobby Collins was a peter Reid midfielder with more goals in him, playing in an average side who were 6th from bottom when he arrived from Celtic - Everton had been in for him time after time as he aged Celtic let go - he took us from the lowly position to 6th from the top 6 asked for a pay rise and HC blundered again like Bally gave him to Leeds for a song!
Collins stature did not matter his size 3 and 1/2 boots his temperament was like Balls hated getting beat he was a hard tackling midfielder who moulded Giles and Bremner - This young lad Walsh my brother stated had attributes that reminded him of Collins - great passing skills - looking for the ball all the time on the offensive - great passer - in fact he quoted a great replacement for Barry, and RK should have him on the bench giving him 15 mins in games here and there, he is disappointed in RK youth policy as it is non existent in his eyes journey man players like Cleverly should not even see the bench etc

Your brother in law is spot on, but I would lean towards Alan Ball.
For me, this is the Barry replacement, and having watched him on four occasions this season, it seems to me Unsy is grooming for the roll.

My brother has his opinion and saw both players in Collins/Ball they were totally different in his eyes Ball was so classy Collins was a destroyer dont forget this lad is only young if he beefs out etc either or a combination of both will do me;)

....my son was talking to Distin's agent in the VIP lounge at Hull a few seasons ago and he said Walsh was the most highly rated youngster at the club, Martinez was a huge fan. I understand he's a Huyton lad and he's got a tough edge to him as well as being talented.

I loved the fact that he went on loan to Yeovil and was a stand out for them. I can't recall any of our loanees having the same impact. It takes a lot for a young man to go to a new club so far from home and be the success he was. Nobody wants to put pressure on him as it's a massive step up but he has a chance in the game.

Everton u18s win 5-2 with Hornby scoring 4,after comming from 2-0 down, this win will at this present moment moves us 6th as the 2 teams above us which we can go above are both losing [boro 4-2 v newcastle and derby 3-1 at man city],we now have scored 22 goals and conceeded 11 in our last 5 games,

next game v middlesbrough home next saturday

....Hornby looks a big lad, I see we got him from Northampton Town under the Elite Player Performance Plan so if he does break through the fee is linked to the number of appearances he makes;
