Everton Youth Teams Thread

Are Brewster and Broadhead injured at the moment? Both were instrumental for the under 18's last year and so far this season I haven't seen them playing for the under 23's. I thought they'd both be looking to make the step up this year.
Broadhead played 2nd half for wales u19s 2 days ago and brewser was unused sub v blackpool in that efl cup midweek, only played 10 or so mins

Academy: Sunderland U18 0-2 Everton U18

Two goals in two minutes proved too much for Sunderland as they attempted to gain their first win of the season at the Academy.
They were up against a solid Everton side well coached by ex-player Kevin Sheedy and although the Youths kept going, they never really threatened.

In the opening period, Sunderland's Jack Diamond cut in from the right but his left-footed shot was easily saved and there was a similar outcome from Chris Allan's effort minutes later.
Striker Lee Connelly did have the ball in the Everton net following a good move but was ruled offside.

Play switched to the other end where tall striker Fraser Hornby tried to steer a pass into the far corner but Brandon Taylor got in a superb block.

The same player, who was dangerous throughout, then saw his header hit the post with Anthony Patterson in the Sunderland goal stranded.

But the pressure did finally pay off in the 36th minute when Hornby played in Jack Kiersey to open the scoring.

Two minutes later, outstanding right winger Dan Bramhall switched to the left and cut inside to drive low just inside the near post to double the advantage.

It was a powerful burst by the visitors and one that proved to be decisive.

Only a last-ditch tackle by Taylor prevented further agony from being piled on seconds later as the Toffees took over.

To Sunderland's great credit heads did not drop and in the second half they held their own against an accomplished outfit.

Lee Connelly went close with a shot that drifted just wide but Patterson had to save well with an outstretched leg to prevent the third as Lavery closed in.

However, the keeper was nearly caught off his line as Hornby's long range shot was narrowly wide.

Although the Youths huffed and puffed, they never created one clear cut chance as the points deservedly went to the better side.

Coach Elliott Dickman said after the game: "We tried something different with three at the back and two wing backs but to no avail. In the second half we showed a lot of character and kept persevering but were never really dangerous."

Sunderland: Patterson, Hickey (McAughtrie 46, [Kimpioka 56]), Krusnell, Young, Taylor, Storey, Diamond, Hackett, Connelly, Allan, Best.

Subs not used: Woud, Howard, Leonard.

Everton: Renshaw, Morris, Moore, Collins, Lees, Denny, Bramhall, Kiersey, Lavery, Hornby, Mampala (Ball 73).

Can't see on other sites if Davies was playing for England in this one.

It's interesting reading this report, some others , and seeing the clip of Bramall's goal . Hornby has clearly been moved up to a striker role from the defensive midfielder position he has played for us and Scotland. Perhaps no surprise as in size he's literally head and shoulders above his age group peers in some photos and still only 17. It's an interesting transformation , as a DFM he appeared to have "languid skills" , not excessively active but good on the ball when he received it. Our top scorer at u18 level and my slight concern would be that sometimes these youngsters who do well because they use their size to good effect get found out as they move up an age playing against others who are then a similar size. You have to say it's working so far this season .
