Everton Youth Teams Thread

I went to watch that last night.

We were bad, if any of them are playing premiership football this time next year it will be a miracle.
True. But our two best in that age group didnt start. Evans on loan and Beni for some reason played on Monday. Both have a chance to break through to the first team squad within next 2/3 seasons imo. I'd maybe add Feeney and Hornby to that list.

...increasingly the players who are making an impact on the first team are youngsters we are bringing in. More specifically, Stones, Holgate, Calvert-Lewin and Galloway. Davies obviously is an exception but as @blueloon says, he played in last years defeat to Aston Villa.
Eggs. They all came from lower league clubs where they had a degree of exp to senior football at a very young age. Same thing wiyh Dele Alli and Bale.

Was thinking about that yesterday, shows our recruitment of youth is on a good track, with the exception of Hennan the majority of the younger players we have brought in have progressed to the first team fairly quickly. Goes to show that playing open age football is so much more important to a young players development than just mixing it with the same age group. Somehow the club have to find the right loan deals for these players to progress, something Martinez, seemed quite up on and hopefully something Walsh will take even further. I think it takes an exceptional player to go straight from youth football to the premier league.

The club should try and forge some official or unoffical links with progressive clubs in each dvision with a view to loaning out players, needs to be teams who have a similar setup and play in a similar way. If you look at the kids who have gone out on loan recently only Walsh has had anything lik what you would call a success and perhaps Connor Grant. The progression of Garbutt has stalleed dramatically with a number oif failled loans and Galloways has been a huge flop.

Can't base it on one performance really. I've been watching our first team all season thinking if they play the next match that'd be a miracle!

Thinking the same myself. I'm thinking league 1 standard and sending them our very best prospects at age 16/17, a bit younger than we do at the moment.

Barkley had a bad experience at Leeds. I think players can learn as much from a bad experience as a good one.
Ultimately it all comes down to their ability and their character.

no one is gonna take a 16 yr old on loan unless it wayne rooney
Mainly 17 yo I agree but now and agsin you get lads maturing a bit earlier, both physically and mentally. It isnt that unusual to see 16 yo getting a game in the lower leagues.
The point is we dont usuallly send them out on loan until they are 18/19 and I"m suggesting our best prospects go out a bit earlier. All the lads Eggs mentiioned above had senior football at 16/17.

you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of clubs willing to put their faith in kids that age to be honest. we'd probably have to pay them a fee or something.

Warnock was a bad choice of manager in the same wsy thst Pulis was for Galloway. Chosing the right loanee club is paramount which is why I'd like to see some type of formal relationship set up. Sort if like a feeder ckub who we in turn could aid financially

...and Lookman of course. I've been saying for a while that we don't truly know the worth of our youngsters until they step out of their ring fenced age competition. I appreciate the old Central League wasn't ideal but it was a route for young potential to play alongside and against seasoned professionals in a competitive game.

Made couple of posts above suggesting setting up a sort of feeder arrsngement with a lower league club whereby we aid them financially in return. Choosing the right club is important as is maintaining constant dialogue to monitor progress etc. Do you think something like that could work?
