Everton Youth Teams Thread

....I think we have to be careful in thinking this crop of U23 players will see a flow of Premier League talent. They play in ring fenced aged groups and when they have been exposed to more experienced and senior opponents (the high-profile UEFA tournament and individuals out on loan) they have often been found wanting (although Liam Walsh was terrific at Yeovil).

Local talent won't be a magic wand that can produce 'one or two' every season. Just consider how many have truly come through in the last 10 years. We'd love it to happen but Tom Davies' are a rarity. I'm all for bringing in the best youngsters from around the globe, Holgate, Calvert-Lewin, Galloway and Stones are an illustration that this is a more productive route.
Generally I think you're most probably right but you do get these blips with a lot of real talent coming through at once. At the minute I think we've got such a blip with half a dozen or more capable of making that step up into the premier league. I think when the manager of the U23's make these statements as well then you have to listen because it's the first time that I can remember one saying it.

...only time will tell but we genuinely have nothing to base Unsworth's view on. Davies has come through but only Walsh has truly blitzed the lower league team he joined on loan.

Made couple of posts above suggesting setting up a sort of feeder arrsngement with a lower league club whereby we aid them financially in return. Choosing the right club is important as is maintaining constant dialogue to monitor progress etc. Do you think something like that could work?

...I'm not sure, it seems to work in other countries where they actually have 'B' teams in lower divisions.

A bit off topic as not directly connected to Everton, but good article about how German clubs are more willing to promote academy coaches for the top job. If RK were to quit tomorrow, a lot of people would be against rhino getting it as he hasn't had the top job somewhere else. German clubs prove that doesn't have to be a problem

Gerrard going to the rs as a youth coach could be bad for us.
Session 1: "Who here can hit a 60 yard diagonal ball?... ok, ok, hands down. So, for the first 2 hours you can just watch me do it. Then if there's time you lot can have a go. We've got to finish early today because Carra's coming to interview me for SKY. I'm gonna say that this is the most rewarding experience of my life and one day I will manage the club and win a league title with us. That would still count!"

Gerrard been at Liverpool means nothing to Everton,if young players want a chance to get to the 1st team,Everton youth are your choice,if you want to go for gerrard and his presence, you probably get no were for me,people are falling overselves again because of Gerrard

...I doubt he'll be at that level for anything more than a year.

I'm talking about Gerrard using his influence to persuade kids and parents to sign for the rs. Kenny Scum did the same and we lost Fowler, Steve Mac, Michael Owen and is Kenny also tried it with Rooney but failed in this one. Maybe I'm over thinking this
