Everton Youth Teams Thread

Sam Byrne didn't do much, to be honest. He had a decent first touch and was involved in some decent link up play with Hallam Hope, but he never really had any chances to score. Hope had a few chances himself but wasted them. He seems to have a short fuse - at one point he got frustrated and kicked the ball away, causing everyone to go 'Ooooooooo' rather comically.

Courtney Duffus came on in the second half and looked far more the part, much more self assured in front of goal and took his chance to score well, nutmegging the keeper. The 3 standout players on the pitch were Ryan Ledson, George Green and Courtney Duffus.

Highlight of the entire game was a ball being kicked into touch, came flying into the stand and everyone ducked, only for Joe Royle to head the ball back into play. Everyone cheered, it was a really funny moment. I was sat very nearby Royle who was sat next to Colin Harvey, and it was interesting glancing over at them at times, deep in conversation about what they were watching.

How did the new lad bryne look?

who else looked good, seen a few shouts on twitter saying ledson looked quality

Ye, he's technically very good. Strong and aggressive in the tackle also. He was anchoring the midfield though, didn't do much going forward.

George Green looked to make things happen always looking to beat a man or play a killer pass, don't think he has developed physically though tbh.

Out of the strikers I didn't think too much of Bryne, lad who scored looked sharp.

I would love to see Harvey back in the Everton youth setup in some capacity.

I think it would be good to pick his brains, but he's too old for a day to day role now. He turns 70 in a few months time and has an artificial hip. He actually retired from Everton 11 years ago, after a testimonial, due to his hip. He then worked for 5 years as a Chief Scout for Bolton between 2007 and 2012, but that wasn't too strenuous, just going to games and watching tapes, doing reports for Gary Megson. He's been properly retired 2 years now. Harvey is a lovely bloke too.

Harvey is another one, like Kendall, that Moyes discarded; another Everton legend that he didn't utilise or value. Again... personally I think Moyes felt threatened by him and his status at the club, amongst the fans. Moyes couldn't be the alpha male if there's someone there who has won trophies at the club, albeit as a player, and had 2 top 6 finishes as a manager.

Durban 2014

Any one have any ideas on k/o times in the UK, and whether the games will be broadcast please ?

I mapped out the days on the calender a while ago and have our first game versus Santos on Friday, but the Everton OS has the following which conlicts:

  • Mon 28th
  • N
  • missing.gif
  • Durban U19 Tournament
  • friendly.gif
  • 0:0
  • fx-fb-off.png

Surely it's just yet another stupid gaff by the club, or have we missed a game (ffs) ! :)
