Everton Youth Teams Thread

DF you are right in what you say about overseas players being brought over from abroad, can't comment on the money aspect of it, though I have heard whispers . What I was talking about was the standard of the coaching of the very young players it doesn't come close to the other academics I've attended, imho of cause.

Great post mate. It was about 10 years ago I was aware of what we were doing with the younger age groups. I know our former under 9's coach was top draw, he looks after US youth football now.

From your experience have we slipped at younger ages? If so thats a real shame!

Yes catch we have don't like to go into to much detail on a public forum but I've been very disappointed in what I've witnessed

There's a strong argument that young playerscare over coached. Football should be instinctive, kids have a natural instinct to want the ball and to want to dribble. It's a fine line to instill positional awareness and decision making without taking away the natural instincts that youngsters have. Top class coaching should be about teaaching key skills and ball control in such a way that it become muscle memory.

Browning was one of the only positives of last season before his injury, and looked a real player in his few chances.

I really hope he gets another go in the first team this season.

...no contract on the table at this stage of the season would be a concern. For me he's always looked more of a supreme athlete than a good footballer but I suppose he could grow into his defensive trade. Regarding his contract, the club's approach will be interesting even if he is surplus to requirements. Give him a new contract to ensure a future fee or just release him.

Would be a shame to just release him so it's be good to see what the club does here. He's still young and lost a whole year with his injury so the club shouldn't give up on him yet.

He looked very useful last season for us, and we'll need numbers for Europe next year.

My ten year old has trained with both City and Everton. Liverpool, Preston and Blackpool too.

City facilities were great but he enjoyed himself the most at Everton. Which for me at his age is the most important aspect.

City brought in kids from overseas even at a very young age. A few years back I chatted at one of the u16s matches to a French lady who had brought her whole family from France at Mcfc expense and they paid her a salary to look after her son (30k a year at that time I seem to recall). They did this for several of their lads. You simply can't compete with such international recruitment at all age levels. However we do seem able to get a good number of individuals to a decent standard even if not quite PL level. We also tend to promote our most talented lads up the age ranges to stretch them. E.g. Barkley, Davies etc. Glad we dont do it the city way tbh

There have been a number of discussions on City's Academy on here over the years. There's little doubt that with the money they have put into it they have the best set up . If you're a parent their free private schooling even if you're son doesn't make it , will make you think hard about what is best for him. I see they paid a supposedly record fee of £175k for a 13 year old from Southend the other day, so hardly surprising if they're paying that mutch that they'll also have spent heavily on the coaching set up at u13s too. It must be hard to differentiate the talent they have in these teams - if you're good enough to thrash the opposition 10-0 regularly just how good is that striker scoring a hat trick every week, would he do it in a lesser team? City are what they are , we can't compete with their spending on the Academy, but if they've raised the bar we can learn from them and make our own set up better.

we'd get a development fee due to his age even without a contract though wouldnt we?

...not sure. I thought the same about Nathan Holland but some say if there is no contract offer on the table then a fee isn't applied.
Pretty certain this is the case Eggs. We need to make the lad an offer which he refuses before it can go to tribunal. if you recall we picked up the lad Byrne for free when he was released by Man U.

I thought that myself, until i saw Holgate this season and think he is a massive upgrade on Browning.
Maybe we were just looking for any sort of positive as last season was terrible.

The lads been unlucky with injury but i reckon it is probably best for both partys if he finds a new club. At 22 he has played less than 10 professional football matches he needs to maybe take a similar path as Duffy did and work his way back up

Or give him a new contract so he can open a juce bar like Conor McAleny
