Timi Max Elsnik is predicting a ‘beautiful game’ under the Pride Park Stadium floodlights as Derby County’s Under 23s aim to add another high-profile feather to their cap when they take on Everton.
dcfc.co.uk:
“If I could choose a time when to play Everton I would say it is now.
“They are going to see us as an opportunity (to get back to winning ways), but I think that is something that could suit us. They won’t sit off like Leicester did last week and we will have more opportunities to score if that’s the case.
“It’s going to be a beautiful game to watch and be involved in. There will be lots of good football from two sides who are playing well at the moment. It’s one that I am looking forward to.”
The fixture will also see Derby aiming to add another scalp to their collection.
This calendar year alone has seen them defeat Manchester City's Elite Development Sqyad 3-1 in the Premier League Cup as well as record notable recent victories over Manchester United (5-3) and Liverpool (2-1) in the league.
Elsnik said:
“We love facing teams from the North! Hopefully there is another tick in the box next to Everton’s name because they are a massive club – one that has been in the top league for a long, long, time now and it will be a massive win for us if we can get it.
“We have got to approach the game with the same mentality we have had recently, though, and if we can do that we will have a great chance.”
Monday night’s game will also be the first time Wassall’s men have played at Pride Park since January, when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Sunderland.
Elsnik believes playing at the club’s main stadium for such a big game can give the players the ‘extra five per cent’ they may need to beat the high-flying Toffees.
“There is always a different atmosphere when we play at Pride Park,” he said.
“It’s where we all want to be playing as players in the next couple of years, so it’s something we are all looking forward to.
“Playing there gives us that extra five per cent to play better and that could help us a lot on Monday.”
