Everton Youth Teams Thread

Absolutely. Of those I mentioned, I expect only one of Pennington/ Galloway/Browning to still be with is by the end of next season. No idea which one at this stage. Most will go in the summer I suspect.

...yep, just watching the Everton Show now and they did a nice piece on Walsh. Sheedy is in the studio and is clearly a big fan of the boy. Sheedy saying a number of his U18s will move to Unsworth next season which means the U23s will have to make room.

I think a lot will move on. Especially in the striker department. Where we seem poor at under 23 level. Some will go on loan. Maybe dowell, charsley, Connolly.
And a few moved up to the 1st team squad. Hopefully Walsh will be one of them

I've always had some reservations over the Ledson situation and wonder whether there was some off-field issue. He did go through a difficult period before he went on loan to I think Cambridge was it? One would hope we had a sell on/buy back clause in place.
Yeah there was an odd period for Ledson around about August 2015. There was an unsubstantiated report on GOt about him being out on the town. Then he disappeared out of the u 23s for a short while and wasn't picked for the England side either, which you would think was based on comments from the club . Then he came back into both teams before his loan out. Water under the bridge now but an odd one in that a pure business decision would be a season long loan and sell him for more money later on. And it wasn't portraid as " great move for Ryan, so we reluctantly let him go "

I think you are right. I have no idea what happened, but between being on the bench as a 16 year old to not being selected for the under 23's as a lad just turning 18 was odd. I remember he didn't get a single nomination for any awards the summer previous. He was captaining our reserves at age 16/17 (Kenny took over that responsibility). I always found it unusual. When he played against Krosnadar, whole he didn't set the world on fire he didn't disgrace himself and was one of the better performers.

The easy answer is to say it was a football decision. We have good players in that position. Maybe Ledson demanded a move, which in some ways would make sense. You go out on loan, come back and find lads who were behind you like Davies and Dowell have jumped ahead of you. I don't know really, I'm sure at some stage the truth will come out though.

Cheers mate, took a second read to see what you meant :), at least it's a promising start , though from that lineup it's hard to pick out any who are likely to challenge for an U23s place next season, maybe Denny , Kiersey if they up their game.

i think thats pretty much what happened, he had dropped down the pecking order so could see no way to the first team and enjoyed playing proper football while on loan.
