Everton Youth Teams Thread

I think as people have suggested last nights result shows what people have been saying- that the lads immediately behind the Davies year group are a big drop off.

We have a lot of lads out on loan as well and unlike lots of teams don't have a huge squad at under 23s. What I think it shows though, is some lads when given a Janice haven't really delivered. I expect we will see a lot leave this summer. I also anticipate we will see a lot of investment in this squad over the next 2-3 years.

In many ways it will sadden me as we will see lots of lads from outside of the City representing the under 23s. This was always something I took great pride in. That's the direction of travel though and from Unsworth through to Moshiri i can't see the excepting lads who won't be competitive on the pitch.

We've started inserting janice's into the youth players' contracts?

Nah. Remyca have been around for donkeys years.

The Litherland bit was adopted by the youth teams a few years ago. Try get more local kids involved and applied to join the leagues as Litherland Remyca. Been a couple of years building it back to a decent level for the kids.

....yep, old Zingari League club who've been going for many years.

...nice interviews on the OS, Unsworth clearly rates the boy highly so there might be a little frustration he's not in first team squads.

Still training with the first team though isn't he? Think Walsh's only problem is stature, not temperament as he shown he isn't scared of bigger lads, not ability as he clearly has something.

Good player, getting better - just needs to have a break and get in the team.

...I fear his biggest problem is the number of players ahead of him in the queue; Schneiderlin, Gueye, McCarthy, Besic, Davies.

The question is being covered in The Echo;

I think that is a problem, i think my question would probably be if he was the same stature as Davies, would he be so far down in the queue as he clearly has ability? That height difference seems massive when you look at Davies. I know a lot of quality smaller players make it, just think that it might be one of the things going against him.

I think given a chance he would more then hold his own, its just getting that chance.

...not sure how his stature compares with Gueye. You might be right but I fear his chances of getting a game are slim which is a shame because I'm a big fan. I suspect there will be a few suitors after his services in the summer.

About 3 inches taller for the record, give or take. I was looking at Wilshere to see how he compares and Walsh is smaller.

I think in another country (or one which over the last 10 years hasn't priorities athletes over footballers) he would have seen game time now, when does his new contract run out? I think this next season might be make or break, be it out on loan or not. Personally, i think he will make it with us, however he will need a higher level loan next season or as @mightymoyes says for a couple of players to leave to get a chance in a couple of games.

Completely disregarding what Koeman said the other day, i think we will se a couple more players from that U23 squad get game time this year.

...if that is the case, the fear for youngsters is whether replacements are purchased.
I don't think his size will go against him. The likes Walsh ferguson and Irwin koeman are at most of the un23 games.

And Walsh has been the stand out player, even when davies was playing. He's trained with the 1st team I'm sure RK knows how good he is.

With hopefully Europe next year, there will be more games, and with one or two midfielders moved on. And with more important positions to improve. I don't think big money will spent on the midfield even if McCarthy cleverly and barry leave.

That would leave us 5 centre mids, including Walsh. RK may buy an attacking midfielder like Tielemans or Klassen.
