Everton Youth Teams Thread

I don't think his size will go against him. The likes Walsh ferguson and Irwin koeman are at most of the un23 games.

And Walsh has been the stand out player, even when davies was playing. He's trained with the 1st team I'm sure RK knows how good he is.

With hopefully Europe next year, there will be more games, and with one or two midfielders moved on. And with more important positions to improve. I don't think big money will spent on the midfield even if McCarthy cleverly and barry leave.

That would leave us 5 centre mids, including Walsh. RK may buy an attacking midfielder like Tielemans or Klassen.

..I tend to agree with you about his size. I wonder, though, if the lad is prepared to wait for his chance knowing how limited that might be. I remember last summer there was interest from Championship clubs and read a quote from RK saying he would reluctantly agree to let him go if the player wanted first team football. That might just be an attractive proposition for him.

This is what I'm hoping will happen.

If we get European football next year there will be ample games for the likes of Walsh to play especially if we can have a run in the cups too. Wouldn't be adverse to a season long loan to either a championship club or lower level Orem club but think I'd prefer a loan to a decent championship club where he would play week in rather than being in and out of a struggling prem team. We shouldn't even be thinking of letting the lad go though.

..if he leaves I think it would be more a case of him forcing a move.

Its hard to figure out our policy on contracts at times, you could argue that McAleny and Grant had contract extensions under the previous regime, but this season we've let Ledson go and recently gave a 3 1/2 year contract to the 20 year old Joe Williams. I've no problems with Williams , he's deserved the contract extension and its sensible to tie him down until we're clearer about his full potential, but it seem illogical not to apply the same thinking to Walsh - extend his contract until we're clearer about what level he can reach.

I don't think he will force a move eggs, I think he knows that he is highly rated by Unsworth and also Koeman but it's up to him to show that he's worth taking the chance on. He said he didn't really want to go on loan until Unsworth said it would be good for him so he does hold great stock in what Unsworth says. The lad wants to play and think he wants to play for Everton so hopefully we do get
Europe this season which will give probably at least 8 games and then league cup and fa cup games. Think he is already outgrowing u23s football and just wants to play and improve.

I've always had some reservations over the Ledson situation and wonder whether there was some off-field issue. He did go through a difficult period before he went on loan to I think Cambridge was it? One would hope we had a sell on/buy back clause in place.

With Liam, I'm hoping we can keep hold of him. Don't think the contract is an issue yet as he still has over 2 years remaining. Think the ones you mentioned above were all coming up to expiry when they were renewed.

...Dufus was the subject of a bid from Brighton so there will undoubtedly be interest in some of our U23s. Could be a few movers in the summer.

But surely we can pick and choose which ones we sell and which ones we keep mate. Likes of McAleny, Duffus, Dyson, Jones, Henen, Pennington, Browning, Galloway, Grant, Garbutt, even Tarashaj, all have question marks over them and will have a transfer value. Some of them good ones too. But we must be able to keep hold of Liam mate. I'm sure there will be a lot of interest in him but that doesn't mean we have to give in to it.

Didn't Walsh sign a 3 year deal last summer?

Summer 2019 it's up. No worries on that score. Just depends how much he wants to play first team football. Hopefully he'll be happy with a good quality loan next season. Good championship team or maybe even premier team. That backfired with Galloway though.

...I'm sure that will be the case but there must be a number that RK thinks will get very limited opportunity and it is in the best interest of all parties for them to move on. Some lads will be 21/22 years of age and they will need to move their careers on with permanent moves elsewhere. It's the way it will be, those players are at a crossroads and only the very best will come through.

Absolutely. Of those I mentioned, I expect only one of Pennington/ Galloway/Browning to still be with is by the end of next season. No idea which one at this stage. Most will go in the summer I suspect.
