Everton Youth Teams Thread

I'm sure I read we are going to put this game on our Facebook page .

I watched the first half if the Youth Cup final , Man City v Chelsea , both teams were massively ahead of our own u18s but we all know that. I was interested in the line ups. Chelsea had at least four regular u 23s in their team and City had four who played against our U23s. They drew 1-1 , 2nd leg next week so it is highly likely that non of the four for Chelsea will play against us, and similarly City u play The RS on Monday night so are likely to be similarly weaker.

It looks like Besic will play, but it's the wrong way round for the U23s this time, with playing first you'd think Koeman will want some if not all of the likes of Kenny, Williams, DCL and Lookman for the 1st team squad. Pennington you'd think would be available, right back could be a difficult slot to fill if no Kenny.
It's taken me back to the 80's , looking at fixtures, points needed, working out how goal difference could affect us winning the league. Even a draw tomorrow doesn't clinch it . If we then lose our last game our goal difference would be at best 7 ahead of City, if they beat the RS then it's down to 6 and their team is capable on a good day of putting 6 past Southampton at home . C'mon lads finish it against Chelsea!!

Reminds me of bilyletdinov, scorer of great goals but doesn't contribute much else!

...he can pick a pass, Dario. He's capable of playing sublimely weighted passes in behind the back four. I just feel RK wants players with real ability who also fit his high energy team model. I don't think Dowell is high energy, he's almost a bit languid. As you say, it would help if he influenced games over longer periods.

Agree , but it's not just RK who wants the youngsters to work hard. There's a video this week of them training at USM Finch Farm and in huge letters on the wall behind them are the words:
" HARD WORK WILL BEAT TALENT, IF TALENT DOES NOT WORK HARD"

A bit twee maybe, but says it all for players in this age range and it's there staring at them every day.

...it's a balance, isn't it. Sometimes busy players flatter because they run around lots. Perhaps I'm unfair, but I put Lennon in that category. The easiest players to go past are the ones who run at you like headless chickens. The hard work and closing down has to have a purpose.

He seemed to be on the cusp of the first team at the start of the season Eggs but has fell well down the pecking order, maybe more regular U-23 watchers than me may have a better idea on what's happened!
