Everton Youth Teams Thread

I think this is a case of swings and roundabouts because whilst i agree that Dowell and especially Walsh would have featured if Martinez was still here i don't think Davies would have.

Martinez was a fan of Cleverley whereas Koeman has essentially replaced him in the squad with Davies.

I think you may be right.

I'll ask a question I've asked before. How many of these kids would be happy be an Everton squad player for the foreseeable future vs. leaving to play first team football down the league?

I know it's not a guarantee that any of them will end up as squad players, but frankly why not? Why would we go out and spend big money on foreign players, or even British players who rarely start when we could pack the bench with homegrown players?

...the fact is that the home grown players might not be good enough, Johnny. It's fine saying put them on the bench but very few come through the way that Barkley and Davies have.

That's great news! A very under-rated player indeed, one who does the hard work but also knows where the net is.

A loan would do him good and would also bring him closer to the Ireland first team which would be kind of strange- playing for your country before first team for your own club.
Yeah you would say on contributions to the team Harry Charsley would be our U23s Player of the Season..... the "buts " are that yes he's hard working, so are Williams and Walsh ; versatile in where he plays but so is Connolly, scores goals from midfield but so do Grant/ McAleny . I would rate him higher than Dyson, Duffus or Henen ( yeah different positions I know) It's great that he's got a further contract, well deserved and we're at that stage again of giving out contracts/extensions to the U23s , they seriously need to get Antonee Robinson signed up soon.

totally understand. I'm thinking of people like Pennington, Kenny and others who might fit that bill. More Leon Osman than Wayne Rooney.

....there comes a point where the coaches have to make a decision on whether to invest further in a young player or release them. As we know, very few come through and you have to think it'll become increasingly difficult for local boys. Lookman, Galloway and D C-L are all purchases and the strategy looks to bring in more via that route.

I'm sure decisions have been made on many players out on loan and they are as much in the shop window as trying to impress their owner club.

....a key competency must be that they have the potential to fit the RK team model and player type. We are already getting an idea that type has to be able to tirelessly press the opposition but also have ability on the ball.

Just read a thread on Bluemoon regarding Liverpools youth ban and the reporting of City by Liverpool. One poster said the City were quite aggressive with their youth recruitment and recently took Evertons 2 best U12's.

Any of our regular youth team followers know who these were and how highly rated they are/were?

You don't want to bring in too many players, but can't be bad to bring in top talent at that level to push on the top academy players. At some point you have to switch from development to productivity.
