Everton Youth Teams Thread

...be interesting if Arsenal need a win from the last game of the season to get into the top 4. It'll be a bit like when we let City beat us to win the league a few seasons ago.

We have such a good record away at Arsenal too, so they would have every right to condemn us if we got beat :)

In all seriousness though that is something that simply has to improve going forward. At home we are superb.

I think with @Eggs mentioning a few of this side may be on there way out.
Which may seem harsh on a few of them but history suggests if you get 2 or 3 players out of a group then it is seen as a success.
With Davies and Holgate already pretty much 1st teamers, DCL getting game time plus Pennington, Kenny & Williams around the squad recently, Dowell, Connolly also having made 1st team appearances id say to look to see who else can come through is pretty unrealistic.

Thats 8 players i've mentioned (lets say 5 of them are good enough for arguments sake), to throw any more than 6 young lads into a regular squad of 18 would not work. You need the more experienced palyers in the side to to help them out.
Klopp changes his side for cup games, and you hear commentators realing off how great it is to have a side with the average age of 21 out there blah blah blah, but what are these kids learning playing alongside lads who are at the same standard and level of them? They would learn more having 4 or 5 kids in the team and experienced players in the prominent positions.

you look at the most successful person at doing this was ferguson with the nevilles, Butt, Beckham, Giggs, Sharpe Scholes. All of them bar Nicky Butt who at the time was the most mature player of them all, when they came in were used in positions that were not in the "spine" of the team. The nevilles at fullback, Beckham, Sharpe & Giggs on the wings and Scholes played centre forward.
They had Schmeichel, Pallister, Bruce, Keane, Hughes, Cantona, Ince all playing in the important positions nad the kids on the outskirts learning.

The best thing for someone like Davies is having someone like Schneiderlin & even Lukaku around him in the team

This is plain insightful and also correct

i think walsh and dowell will both go on loan to championship for next season, hopefully royle gets them good clubs where they will play most weeks.
as you say theres an opening for kenny now with coleman injured so hopefully he'll get the last 2 or 3 games. holgate been steady but just doesnt offer the attacking threat that coleman does but kenny should be able to replicate.

Agreed. They are too good for this level, but it's too soon to sell them. It would be a huge mistake to sell them right now, but playing in the reserves is stagnation for them. They need to and deserve to play league football next year. If it's not with us, loan them to a Championship side. Look at what Tamy Abraham (Chelsea) has done for his reputation at Bristol. Next year he could be in the prem or with a Championship side pushing for promotion. That's the path a lot of these lads need to be on. Chelsea over do it with the youth signings and loans, but truthfully we need to be doing this with this group.

Be good if the game could be played on Monday afternoon so more kids could go with it being a bank holiday, oh and I could go aswell ,in work Monday night.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...premier-league-investigation-signing-11-year/

The Premier League is scrutinising Manchester City’s signing of an academy footballer as young as 11 years old.

The transfer is one of three academy signings made by City that are being reviewed by League officials after concerns were flagged as part of their strict protocol governing academy deals. The boy is a midfielder who was signed from Everton last year. In addition, the recruitment of a 15-year-old midfielder from Wolverhampton

Wanderers – who we are also not naming – is being looked at as part of the new “five-step process” introduced by the League in July last year to ensure moves between Category One academies are above board.

Apparently 2 u12's were poached, I wonder why only 1 is being investigated?

It would be interesting to see Dowell and perhaps Walsh as well loaned to somewhere decent in the Netherlands where the Koeman brothers have good connections as they might well flourish more there on a professional level than in League One or Championship battles. The problem with both, I fear, is that they are going to be in a fight to win the confidence of a Championship manager whose job is on the line if they don't win promotion/are in danger of relegation. Connolly is a good example of someone who started out his loan superbly but seems to have fallen out of favour. Both players I think are going to need to display something extra somewhere to convince that they have what it takes.

Of course, there would be the potentially large problem with adjustment to a new way of life/language as well. A few would take to it and some would be pining for their mates and home cooking.

Dowell more than Walsh might cause concern. Walsh is a little bulldog. I think most managers would fall in love with him. Dowell, as we discussed, gives you the spectacular, but might appear to coast at times.

But to your point, I'd love to see us use Holland as a loan destination more often. It's a proper league, the style they play is good for the technically gifted, and most everyone speaks English.
