Everton Youth Teams Thread

Koeman:

“It’s a really good achievement. You play football to win. The most important is to bring good players to the first team but you play to win.

“Sometimes though I feel there’s too much positivity abut the young players and I know they’re not ready.

“It’s very difficult to make the last step and I know that even though they win the title it doesn’t mean they’re ready.

“Look to the young players involved this season; Mason, Lookman and Dominic. Tom Davies perhaps an exception.

“It’s too easy to tell people we have a lot of players ready for the first team because it’s not the case.

“Now we have enough young players in the squad. We need more players in the age bracket 26-29 to improve.”We stay open to young players as well but little by little. Not too fast.”

Can't disagree with much of that. I think the last line is key. We already have a pretty young squad now, with a few youth players coming in this season. We can't go and add another 3/4 next year, especially as several of those looking to make the step are midfielders. The timing is inopportune tbh, and patience will be key. I hope they (the kids), the management team, and the fans have it.

Nice to hear Beni is being fast-tracked.
Despite all the bigger names grabbing the headlines, Beni and Anthony Evans have been my two to watch for a good while now. Not sure what's going on with young Evans who seems to be struggling in his loan spell at Morecambe, but I still expect him to come good. He has this knack for making runs from deep that can't be taught, plus is extremely composed in front of goal, another natural talent. I heard he may be going through another growing spurt which would explain his loss of form if true, but at this rate the lads going to be about 6'6 if he continues growing:). Since I first saw Beni he reminded me of a young Kante, and like him he's distribution is top drawer too. We really do have some talent coming through in midfield.

I posted similar to this in the squad thread;

Keeper
Kenny....Pennington....Galloway....Left Back
Williams.....Walsh.....Baningime
Lookman.....Calvert-Lewin.....Left Forward
Do you think it's fair to expect these players to be in and around the squad next season with a view to either being rotated or cover for the established first eleven guys (including Davies and Holgate)?

Are there any others who could step up over the next 15months or is it more likely for Walsh and Unsworth to strengthen the three areas lacking with a view to fast track any signings into the first team squad as with DCL and Lookman?

What's with the obsession with young players mate? Don'tget me wrong it's good to see young exciting players in the side especially when it's from the academy but you seem to would like the majority of our side being under 21.

Our problem under Martinez alongside the poor fitness and shambolic defence was that we had too many young lads who are by nature largely inconsistent (along with the over the hill heads)

If we are to be successful we need the majority of the side to be around the 26-29 age bracket in their prime. Add 2-3 younger lads by all means but largely youth isn't the way to go unless you see your club as simply a feeder club as you develop the players to hand over to the big boys once developed.

look at Dortmund and Monaco. I've actually not stated anything about the 'side' being u21. I'm referring to the 2nd 11 which should make up the cover and rotation players as part of a squad.

Then there is more money to spend on top level starters if there is a conveyor belt of squad players coming through.

I have no idea what youre talking about regarding Martinez...that doesn't make sense at all.

With all due respect, you're probably posting in the wrong thread if you feel that way. Everton have an unusually large number of youth that will go on to play professionally, whether that's here or somewhere else. This is the thread for the people that enjoy paying attention to them.

I understand it's the youth thread just something I noticed in his posts whilst reading the transfer thread. I just find it odd people have a preference over age, would be like someone suggesting mainly players in their mid 30's and crying out for total experience in the side.

In terms of the young side I only think Walsh and maybe Kenny can possibly make the step up. Don't think the rest are good enough for where we want to be, Pennington possibly to a lower prem/championship side.

Left Back Connolly Left Forward Dowell??

Is Lookman more right-sided? Had it in my head he was more of a left-sided player? If so him there, then Dowell on the right would fill out the 11 nicely, along with Connolly.

I think it's more that they are ours, moreso than age. We'd like to see as many actual Evertonians playing for Everton as possible while still maintaining high standards.

what young players were these mate?

Barkley, Deulofeu, Stones, Galloway were often all in the starting 11 together throughout RM's tenure. If you add in Besic and even Rom who for all his goalscoring ability was lacking in other areas then we had a talented but often inconsistent starting 11/squad who lacked the leadership/experience of players in their prime. The likes of Payet, Alderweirld, VVD, Tadic etc we missed out on who were players in their prime.

I would much rather signings like Schnerderlin than potential signings like Lookman and DCL

4 players around 20/21 in the whole squad is not too many young players. quite the opposite, koeman came in to a squad that was far too old overall.
he played howard, baines, jagielka, barry, naismith, osman etc, hardly lacking experience.
you're way off saying martinez played too much young players.
