Everton Youth Teams Thread

I didn't mention Barcelona B, I used Dortmund and Monaco as examples.

Do you think Bernardo Silva at Monaco is good? He's 22 and I said on here we should sign him 2 years ago....he's far superior to any of the players you've given as examples. I also said we should sign wanyama and vvd when they were at celtic and still young players....

The players you've given now as examples are cherry picked...for all of the signings Wham and Spurs have made, they've also bought plenty of flops.

Look at the Bale money, they've used that to buy players....almost all were flops and then they've sold and re-invested....4 of their top stars, Kane, Alli, Rose and Walker were playing as kids...

So, Spurs had a massive windfall....failed in recruitment...then played around half a team of kids....added quality around them and lo and behold here they are.....but still making signings like sissoko.

Southampton....windfall from selling young players...promote young players again....add quality around them....

Guess what Man City are currently doing? Signed Stones, Jesus and Sane...young players....

Its important to have a long term core of young players in the team and the squad...breeds consistency and a culture.

We need to keep bringing through our young players from u23s.....adding more players to that group to create a conveyor belt. Then when guys like Barkley, Holgate and Davies are in the first 11 sign star players around them.

The same Man City are barely scraping it into the top 4. I'll agree to disagree mate but I think you put too much emphasis on how young a player is. Give me a 29 year old fit Kompany over a top young prospect like Stones anyday of the week .

2nd bottom Everton u18s return to 2nd tier League action today on a run of 3 defeats in a row from 4 games played, after a 4 week league break due to games in america, and last weeks game at spurs called off due to the sad passing of Ugo Ehiogu, they are away to stoke with an 11am kick off, team and scores as always later

I am going to take this as the right team,as starting team/subs names to numbers i have is a bit different,

Bramall give us lead on 18,stoke made it 1-1 on 30,and its 1-1 at ht

Ellis Simms is a new name to me. Seems to have been a Man City player who has been on trial with Man Utd and now us. England youth international.

Barkley, Deulofeu, Stones, Galloway were often all in the starting 11 together throughout RM's tenure. If you add in Besic and even Rom who for all his goalscoring ability was lacking in other areas then we had a talented but often inconsistent starting 11/squad who lacked the leadership/experience of players in their prime. The likes of Payet, Alderweirld, VVD, Tadic etc we missed out on who were players in their prime.

I would much rather signings like Schnerderlin than potential signings like Lookman and DCL

Please take transfer talk elsewhere we genuinely don't give a crap in this thread.

I don't think dowell seems to fit what koeman wants and it was interesting that unsworth didn't mention him as a player close to the first team

As for lookman I think he can play either side...

Think you misread what Unsworth was saying mate. He was on about players close to the first team who haven't played yet. Dowell etc. have had a first team debut.

Wonder if Moyes comes in for a a few of the lads to rebuild Sunderland next year in the championship?

Specifically a Dowell or Walsh...

Do you think Hornby and Denny will join Feeney and slot into the u23s next season?

I would imagine a few of those In the u23s will want to use the coverage of their title win to move on and get contracts at other clubs so their could be a bit of upheaval.
Don't know mate, my context was that they appear the best of a poor bunch in which non have made U23s appearances this season . For me being selected for the U23s when young is part of the criteria that alerts you to what Unsy etc are thinking of the players that they see every day in training . But with such a talented squad of 30 odd players for the U23s maybe that criteria needs revising and they need an extra year for us to judge them . I'm thinking of last year's u18 crop where the likes of Brewster, Broadhead, Holland, Yates etc excelled but never got into the first team and similarly none have really made the breakthrough this season, maybe none have the ability to break into a talented team or maybe they need an extra year now we're U23s. Given that not all our U23s are going to make it with us , early promotion to the U23s remains a key marker in a player's development.

Understood. Some of the names I read on here who have either gone on loan or disappeared must surely be off in the summer, as would others who will have offers from lower league sides I think...Just from reading names on here I think that could end up being quite a few players.

What did you think about the German kid who got injured, did he seem any good as were meant to be back in for him this summer...

This is spot on. I remember a coach at the Everton academy telling me keep an eye on the lads who are playing above themselves, not necessarily how they perform. When you look at lads who've made it, by in large thats been the best give away. Rooney was a freak, but he and Barkley played for our under 18's at 14. Davies was a regular in the reserves as an under 18.

Hornby in particular has done very well this season. Brewster looks an absolute monster with his size but hasn't picked on. Neither had Broadhead really. They've got a fair bit do.

Let's see what they are made of now in the last few games. I don't want to be seeing Kone Valencia Jags or Barry in the run in. Season is done and dusted.
