F1 - 2022 Season

Should 100% be stripped of the title like - reverse time, give Merc £7m more budget last year and they win comfortably. Simple as. Rewarding cheating would be such a backwards move - so to be expected by that organisation

As it's a 'minor' breach they won't be but it's totally unfair as other teams could have tried to design and manufacture updates during a season which might have made the Mercedes quick enough for Bottas to get ahead of Verstappen, or other teams like Ferrari to take places from them too.

Just a joke, you either have a cap or you don't. They'll be docked constructors points but as they didn't win that championship anyhow it won't matter a jot.

What's everyone thoughts on Max cutting up Norris when warming his tyres during Qualifying? In my view Max has slowed dramatically after turning a corner leaving Norris unsighted of him. Norris then accelerates through the corner and has to take avoiding action when Max begins warming his tyres without checking his mirrors.

I was also talking with a group of friends and we wondered could a minor break of the wage cap be due to exchange rate fluctuation? Just a thought.

Slowing down a lot after 130r is pretty standard for hot lap preperation and the Red Bull also requires/benefits from slower out laps than the rest of the grid. I think one of the main issues is Max got too sideways trying to get heat into his tyres so he was technically not fully in control of his car when the incident happened.

With regards to an actual penalty, the stewards were actually consistent for once, in 2018 Hamilton did pretty much the same thing to Sirotkin in Brazil and got no penalty. He should have got one probably and so should Verstappen this past weekend but for whatever reasons the stewards don’t seem too bothered by these incidents.

A very concise answer. Many Thanks.

I'm not a Max basher as he is absolutely one hell of a racing driver. Just the past year has seen more incidents work out for him that I can remember.

The whole thing is a farce.

There's a cost cap. Their shouldn't be a sliding scale on the severity of a breach.

Exceed the cost cap? The team is DQ for the season. Easy.
Probably because up to ~7m is not even 5% of the entire cap, which for us it's a lot of money, but for a team is legitimately negligible.

Plus imagine you outspend by 5k, in the last race. DQ and season nulled then? Nah, margin for error in a sport like this where costs fluctuate during the season is fine. This isn't an NBA scenario where you have a cap and do the contracts for everything beforehand.

But that's the point, I think it should be the teams working towards the cap rather than something close to the cap.

It's on the teams to take fluctuation considerations into account.

Deduct 2% of points for each % over the cap. 5% over sees a 10% deduction.

Complete DQ is not really an option but neither is no action.

There should actually be clear guidelines in place of what will happen rather than making it up on the spot. But I'm F1 of late, making things up as they go tends to be how it's done.

Why not?

The sport has a hard spending cap that has been agreed by all teams.

Break a cap that you agreed to and potentially gain an advantage over your rivals is flat out cheating.

As usual, the FIA are utterly spineless. They have been for years.

Where is the next race mate.
