F1 2024 (and other motorsport) thread

The performance from Red Bull was ominous. If anything the gap has widened judging by the margin of victory. I watched the first 5 laps and turned off, the racing at the front needs to be more competitive or dare I say others will follow my lead. At last when Hamilton was winning his titles, there was genuine competition from the likes of Vettel, Rosberg, LeClerc, Verstappen in races, if not for the title. Frankly it’s just boring now.

The entertainment at the front certainly isn't there. The combination of a truly excellent technical team and an absolute generational talent in the seat is the perfect storm to dash much hope of race winner competition. Perez comfortably taking second was another kicker.

It's a shame really as Red Bull are the outlier in an otherwise tight pack jostling with each other. Maybe in time the financial limits and other factors chip away at the Red Bull dominance. It's a maybe for sure but things always and inevitably change.

Thinking back through the ages of F1 since I was a child there has mostly always been a team that dominates. It was team Lotus for instance when I was a kid, nobody to touch them at one point, Williams, Mclaren and Ferrari have done the same. Now Red Bull. I still find it fascinating though that 10 teams from around the globe can produce cars so very close in peformance. In quali on Friday there was .6 of a second basically separating the grid at one point.
Drivers do make one hell of a difference though. Look at Schumacher and Senna, basically whichever team they were with they had a hand in making their car the best and getting it to the top. I think Max has that gift too.

Also look at F2 and the race on Friday, Identical cars and powerplants yet the cream of the drivers buggered off in to the distance but left and intense battle from 4th down to 12th. No car advantage for anyone there in reality but you'd think so.

Another Dutch paper has claimed MBS asked Max to publicly back Horner and he refused.

Also rumours that the verstappens are looking for a seat elsewhere for 2006 due to doubts over new Red Bull engine and Neweys pending retirement.
