He needs to cut 0.4 seconds per lap to get to Max which I think may be a push as he’ll then need to actually pass him.

Gap has stabilised, Verstappen got this. Shame about the start, could have had a real shout at the win without the Mercs getting involved.

Lando needed to push to pass Russell in that first run. He could’ve gotten it done quickly and still saved the tires

If Merc have the same tyre delta between soft and hard as McLaren or other teams then their quali run should have been at least a couple of tenths quicker than Red Bull. You would imagine the Merc would have a bigger delta than .569 between the soft and the hard even at a track like this with few corners within which to lose time. McLaren principle said he thinks Merc look the quickest car here as well... but it's free practice so who knows. They may be quick in quali but they typically struggle in race trim relative to Red Bull and McLaren.

Great 3 way fight at the front between Max and the two McLaren's. Norris took the lead on lap 6, pretty much immediately lost it and in the process Piastri took him for second.
