For me it's not about having the ability mate. It's the thought of them being outplayed, out fought and just plain bullied by a gang of kids, in that second half.
Not being able to get out of our own half, attempt an attack, or more than two passes. The performance in that second half against their kids is going to be a stain in our history.
The thing I can't help but wonder is if Delph thinks to himself, "I've got trophies in my cabinet, which is more than any of this lot have ever accomplished. So if I want to yell at my teammates and talk down them, that's my right. That's what being a 'winner' is all about." Given the fact that he was a bit-time player at City and won those trophies primarily on the backs of the greatness of other players and coaches, that doesn't sit right with me.
Regardless of the incident, his impact on the field for us has been minimal at best. For the record, I was never keen on his signing. To me, this should serve as a reminder that next time we look at signing someone like a Delph, Rooney, Eto'o, etc., we should remember that being part of massively talented and successful teams doesn't mean you can just transfer that success over to another club. If the best reason you can come up with for signing someone is that they'll provide "leadership" and a "winning mentality" rather than on-the-pitch attributes, then it's best to swerve.
I think the issue is, swearing at people is not leadership.
You're right, but it's even more basic than that really. The issue is that we're not winning. If he was having a go at Siggurdson or Schneiderlin, I don’t think people would mind at all. But he’s having a go at Holgate who’s been one of the few players who can come out with their head held high this season...
Couldn’t agree more mate. The other two were at the twilight of their careers but desperately wanted to show they still had something to offer to their new clubs with their professionalism and application. Compare to Delph, barely played since being here and lording over other pros due to were he has come from, not by what he has done in the pitch since being here. He’s absolute chalk and cheese to actual top pro’s like Milner or Barry.
