Fabian Delph

There is zero danger Fabian Delph gets another contract here. And if there is he should get paid based on the time he spends on the field.

I'll give credit where it's due but he has been unavailable much longer than he's been available, picked a fight with the fans and made Tom Davies cry (probably).

If we got relegated I'd be all turned around on it, as he'll be playing in the Championship next year whatever happens to us.

Zero danger? Think it’s more likely than not at this stage. Frank has been speaking very positively about him, and had likely been duped by him staying fit for more than 3 games in a row. To be fair to Delph, he is also the only midfielder we’ve got who can play that role. Frank will have that in mind and will try to sign another Im sure, but if he lets Delph go he’ll have to sign 2 DMs.

Just dangling a carrot hopefully.

Absolutely no way should we be giving him another contract.
I really hope so but…

“He knows how I feel about him. It’s a decision that’s one between firstly him, his decision and what he wants, secondly me and thirdly the club and how that comes together and now’s not the time for that one."

sounds a bit more than dangling a carrot ?

He’ll have to sign two anyway, even if he does give Delph a new contract. He’ll spend most of the season injured.

Inclined to agree with you, I don’t think he’d be worth the wages. If he was on half of what he’s reported to be on then maybe.
For me its not about wages, its about having a player we can rely on.

I mean injuries can happen at any time, look at poor Gmblammo man, but yeah, people we can rely on.

I dont even think hes playing for a new contract here, I think its more for his next club.

For me one yr deal with things in the contract to get him motivated. I think we will sell allan and gomes will go so can see delph staying

No no no no no no no no no

It's nice that he's finally contributed in a few games, but he's done the square root of nothing for 3 years, been injured most of the time and been one of the most dislikeable players we've signed in recent memory.

At this moment in time he deserves his place, but swerve any idea whatsoever of extending his contract.

United aside - where fair enough, he played very well - he's been doing OK in a limited role within a team that is deliberately conceding midfield. What made him a half-decent player at Villa was his mobility, and he showed whenever he tried to step out against Loftus-Cheek that his legs are more or less shot.

Sweet Jesus how can anybody want him staying here.

Will Everton never learn.

About to give him a new contract when he has barely played for the last 2 years.

The guy is an absolute leach… a crocked one at that.

We seem to like paying millions for players to keep our medical staff busy.

Get shut for god sake.

I kinda subscribe to this really. There's clearly a player in Delph, he's just in the twilight of his career now so his fitness isn't what it should be. That being said.. he's never seemed particularly enamored with the club. He's professional enough to do his job when called upon like, but that's about it. We shouldn't be trying to extend his stay IMO.

Credit to him that he has done really quite well recently when we needed it but at the end of the day he is 32 years old and injury prone. Needs to find a new club and good luck to him.

It would absolutely insane to give him a new deal even if it was on half his supposed £100k a week wages.

He doesnt have the physical attributes to be part of a team that I suspect will be playing more on the front foot next season.

In addition, it certainly seems 'peculiar' that hes finally fit just as his contract is about to expire...

There’s too many injury prone players in our squad that are also on big bucks.
Good enough on their day but not available enough….
If those players were available all season or even most of it, we wouldn’t be in a relegation fight, and Delph is one of those players so in my mind he has to go!!
Contributing now to help stay up is the least he can do…

Playing the devil’s advocate here, but if we could get him on a one-year extension at 40-60% of his wages, would it be a risk worth taking?

During a transformational period, Delph playing a 1/3 of the season (12 league games) would be more effective than having say Gomes for the entire season.
