Being a top player doesn't mean that much, but most top managers were good players though. I'd say Wenger, Mourinho etc are exceptions more than the rule.
Surely that's because top players have a fast track to the top roles, whether as coaches or managers? You only have to look at the number of ex players Everton has on the coaching staff. Is it because of their exceptional coaching ability or that they're an ex player so that gives them either increased visibility to those who hire or a halo effect that they "get" the club so therefore must be better.
 
So was Ancelotti the tax dodger doesn’t make him any worse then joe bloggs down the road.
I'm a 'joe bloggs down the road' but the issue is that we are talking a high profile Club appointment and don't need anyone with baggage whether or not there was/is anything in it.
And I also don't think his managerial record is anything to crow about and certainly doesn't inspire me with confidence.

Maybe in previous eras but half the managers in the Premier league done nowt as players including the likes of klopp and tuchel at big clubs

Didnt he coach in China? That's where the best managers go to hone their skills and accrue true football knowledge. Sign him stat
