Face Mask Wearing

Are you happy to wear a face mask to help prevent the spread of Covid-19?

  • I will happily wear one to keep your Granny alive

  • Yes, and also people treat me normally when they can't see my hideously deformed face

  • Not fussed either way, it's the law

  • "You can't eat ice cream when you're muzzled!"

  • Definitely not, I want to kill my Gran through ignorance

  • QGammon nonsence about Paedos, 5G Masts, Fake Pandemics and my Freeeeeeeedom!!!!!!!

This is the thing that does my head in. Even if you’re extremely convinced the masks are useless and do nothing at all to stop the spread, does it really affect you that much to wear a bit of cloth over your face for half an hour whilst walking round a supermarket?

People acting like they’re Rosa Parks when they refuse to wear one.
some people commute for far longer though

Hope all went well with your surgery and you are recovering well. And I do truly mean this, however...

The new data produced by infectious disease physicians, epidemiologists and other experts in the field have shown that masks do decrease spread. They are certainly less effective at protecting the wearer than N95 mask, but it is a bit like exposure to radiation. No exposure would be the best outcome, but limiting it as much as possible is the next best thing.

How do I make a mask out of this?

Thanks xx

They aren't there to stop YOU catching it mate. Its to stop symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers spreading it to the rest of us and Granny Buckethead, and genrally reduce the amount of it floating around
Thanks mate, who needs doctors hey when we've got experts like you to tell us what you've seen on telly. Hahahaha

Hey Walter, your post indicates the topic of conversation with your doctor was about inward protection from inhalation. You may, due to not clarifying your point, have discussed the issue of preventing spread by individuals exhaling. So I think the bucket monster's response is fair.

It is indeed contested terrain in terms of the evidence base, but on balance it is a low cost low hassle intervention that COULD prevent spread.

So yes, fair to raise doubts, but my personal view is it isn't a big problem or imposition, so can't see why folk get upset.

I mean, if we'd been
No it really isn't. It's about listening to arguments from both sides. Unfortunately the TV won't always air

Thanks for the well wishes, I’m not sure why you thought I wouldn’t believe you meant it, unless you truly do wish harm on people that have a different opinion to yourself. ;)

The problem is that your opinion basically boils down to saying that you think eminent researchers are lying / making stuff up / plain wrong.

Fine, but I've worked with many a leading academic and frankly they're not much given to making up rubbish or taking part in weird conspiracies. Well, maybe the odd one, but most are extremely serious, focused and hardworking people. Who try their best to produce robust research and explain the limitations of their work, where appropriate.

Yet the nutters on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc seem to suddenly have some form of equal status, because they have an opinion.

And that's why we are doomed.

Genuinely never batted an eyelid. I was only about 20 but even so, hundreds of millions wear them in Asia without problem.
We just like to moan in this country it seems
can never wear them for longer than 30 min, it's just me. I feel like I am having a panic attack. But again, I comply with the rules, always put them on when in supermarket or public transport

Mate I'm not sure what you think my opinion is tbf. All I have done is repeated what a doctor told me and been vilified for it. And of course pointing out that these days anyone with an internet connection and an opinion is an expert. Seriously the amount of times all leading scientists are in agreement has been thrown at me is ridiculous.
Some people just need to burn the witch, either comply to their point of view or face the consequences. Seriously please don't reply to this post, the people on this thread it's like talking to a brick wall.

You keep missing the point though, the brick wall you talk of, is expert advice from around the world, not some whack job in his mums basement.

It's like night and day, truth and lies. Why oh why would you chose to believe someone with a proven history of anti vax etc ( this is often the case) and ignore world renowned scientists?

My boss says she cannot wear one as it makes her claustrophobic - however she is the first to talk about ending the work from home period and getting back into the office.
Do people not observe their own contradictions?

I think most people get that but most would probably understand if you loosened it for a minute or two before going back to it.

This can sometimes be diminished by the shape of the mask. The sense of obstructed breathing can be significant when the mask is f;at in front and so very close and tight to mouth/nose.
