Fact of the matter is that since BK is no longer in charge the Red Echo hasn't a clue what's going on. I love that. As was said earlier where were they when they should have been asking questions of Kenwright? Not bothered what we hear or when, just so long as we improve and clear up the mess of the last 20 years of mismanagement.
That paper should have been kicked out of town years ago...hold on, they were.

I detest their Everton coverage team: a horrible bunch of plagiarising scumbags and hyenas.

I firmly believe we had a plan, sign "top" tier players and kick on from there, we then realised that wasnt going to work, so plan b is sign a load of players in their prime and try and win a shiny or get Europa, even Europa would help us attract a higher tier of player, its just a shame that we will need to sell Lukaku next year to fund the STCC wage increase.

Thought I'd shift this over here before Danny bollocked us for going off-topic in the Hart thread

I think you're spot on about the Europa, it would show progress and a willingness and ability to push on with the right investment.

I was talking to Mikey about wages for next season yesterday. The Chang deal's up at the end of this season and is currently worth ~ 6 million per annum. To be in a position where we can increase our wage bill for 2017/18 without selling Lukaku we need to substantially increase our commercial revenue and the shirt deal is the obvious place to start.

If Chang want to carry on with us, then based on the extra exposure the TV deals are having, there's an argument to be made for increasing that to something closer to 10 million a year. But we ( hopefully ) will be looking for a new sponsor who's going to go substantially higher then that. The upper limit for the higher profile clubs is about 30 million a year. I think the only way we could hit that was if it involved a link to a Moshiri company, and that would then put us at risk of UEFA taking a look at the deal and accusing us of bypassing the rules.

Realistically, we need to be talking to people who are willing to fork out 15 to 20 million a year, which sounds a bit like a pipe dream, but isn't impossble. That would give us an extra 10 to 15 million a year to spend on wages, plainly not as much as we'd get from the profit on Lukaku, but it would take the heat off a bit.

Longer term, I think we'll move our youth / academy policy a bit closer to the Chelsea model. Currently we buy fairly cheaply and hope that a few are good enough to make the first team squad. That may well change and we'll buy with a view to selling on in two or three years at a profit, and if they're good enough for the squad, that'd be a bonus.

It's a real indictment on his vision, or perhaps lack of, that he's not been able to persuade one top player to come.
Well he's made a fortune compared to most of us so he must have some vision, I also don't think he has to tell us anything, he's the largest shareholder and will probably increase his holding. Just because he doesn't do things the way we want things to be done doesn't make him a fraud. It's business and he's pretty good at it.

Or the fact that were kit very good right mow or the oast couple of seasons and players don't want to be apart of a project. He wants to do this properly and not throw his money around just waiting the success to randomly happen.

Not sure if Walsh is a youth spotter, he strikes me as more your rough diamond type of fella.

Thats not to say we wont buy youth, but it wont be our focus IMHO, Moyes had a few punts and we all know Martinez loved it, but I honestly dont think thats how Walsh and Koeman operate.

The scope for improving our "off field" revenues is immense, so yes the need to sell Lukaku might not be as pressing in 12months, I still have a feeling Lukaku wont be here past this window anyway.

Anyway I dont need to be impressed with MARQUEE players, as long as we get the right players in I dont care how many stars they have on FIFA or their rating on FM. Im gonna be honest, I was massively unimpressed with the signing of Stickleback, cos I had only heard bad things about him, ive defo watched him play, but ive never take any notice, but for me hes come in and done a cracking job, he talks to the defence, he commands his area and he can save a ball.
