Im sure that was 1 of the reasons Koeman came, I mean the 6-7m a year must have helped, but Southampton have this 5 year plan bollocks, slow incremental squad building, the Martinez way, buy quality youngsters and watch them increase in value, a noble, but sadly flawed plan.

Buy ready made players and win the lot I say.

World domination in five years !!
NSNO !!

5 year plans never work in footy really, because that plan constantly involves taking a step back each year and hoping that your strategy by the end of the season has you 2 steps forward, all it takes is one bad year - buying players, underperforming or injuries and the entire model kind of falls in on itself, for example Saints will end up in the championship within 5 years

But using these figures :

And the projected figures from the Daily Mail, I think its roughly around a 40m increase across the Board, give or take a few million.

That average of £80m per club will leap closer to £120m per club, per season. Next season’s winners will take home central prize cash alone of around £150m. The team at the bottom will earn about £100m.

I also cant find any solid figures yet, but lets just say its gonna get scary.

Unreal really.

And much of the credit for getting such a great series of deals is due to a Bristol City fan. Which is hugely ironic as they bounce around their normal habitat.

Thanks, there was some talk around the FA that they were going to tweak the merit element more in favour of winners - i.e. increasing the spread between positions. I'll have a look later to see if I can find anything.

I think they do work but can often be used as an excuse for lower expectations. Or maybe getting things right off the pitch is used as an excuse to allow a coach to lower the expectations.

Planning in the medium term is a good thing, but it shouldn't impact our short term aspirations.

The most important sighing Morshiri can make would be the signing of the contracts to begin construction of the new stadium (the docks of course). I believe this would allow us to really compete at the top table in the long term especially with the FFP conations.

That announcement would be the biggest in out recent history and much bigger than any player or manager, although the transfer thread is a good read :)

I agree with this - it seems the strategy will be to produce a team capable and with the best chances of winning something as soon as possible, then using that success as a platform for a more structured, longer term strategy of gradual squad development and redefinition.
That is the strategy city had when the shiek took them over. Unfortunately due to FFP, it is going to be harder to replicate that model as so many clubs have the wealth now to pay top players, top salaries, compared to 6-7 years ago. But it refreshing that through moshiri's backing, we are at least going to be competitive again and with a top manager like koeman and no European commitments (might turn out to be a blessing) we can finally challenge for domestic honours again.

As and when the signing of construction contracts is completed and the designs/artist impressions are made public, methinks the transfer thread could take on a whole new aspect... as when footballers see exactly what the Moshiri Revolution is producing, they're likely to be queueing up to talk with RK about signing for Everton.

This is what I am getting too. Koeman wants to be managing a top 6 team, ideally one challenging for the league. Mossier wants the same. I don't think we will see Koeman looking at the long term picture in the way Moyes/Martinez did. That will be running alongside with getting a DOF who will start to look at a longer term picture.

My own gut feeling is that Koeman will stay two years and probably leave us as a top 6 possibly top 4 team. He may move on To a Barcelona then.

We will then be left looking at manager of the ilk of Emery, Simeone and Mourinho and be in a far better place to attract in with DOF who is bedded in with two years worth of structures.

Of course Koeman may remain. I think both he and Moshiri and looking for a very quick turnaround on performance though. By August I have a sneaky feeling we will be one of the dark horses for the title.

So you're saying that if I want to back Everton for a top 4 finish then I'd best do it now whilst it's still 12/1? Signing players like Mata can only make those odds tumble!

Moshiri wants success instantly? That's why we are looking to sign 27/28 years old end products with massive fees.

Who has said he wants instant success? No doubt he has got a 5 year plan in place mapping out our future success. At the beginning, I'm sure he will be content to see that it is all progressing nicely by going in the right direction and at the right pace.

I think we'll go for a mixture.

Bit like Wales to be honest. Or Kendall. Mixture of youth and experience.
