Favourite Grounds

This thread has branched out into GAA and AFl discussion as well.lol Here's another great GAA ground Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney County Kerry.

Cork have had plenty of bad days down there, but we've had some good ones as well. Cork fans love travelling down there in their droves. That is unique really, because Corks gaelic footballers get very poor crowds in general in comparison to the hurlers.

It's a nice ground, it's really beautiful on a hot summers day with that view of the mountains. Cork actually haven't won down there since 1995! There's been a few draws all right but no wins. My favourite game in Fitzgerald stadium was in 2004, when the hurlers knocked Tipperary out of the championship down there.

Correction Cork haven't won in gaelic football there since 1995. In the 50's Cork and Tipp played a few hurling championship games in that stadium. So that game in 2004 was a real throwback to that era.

You had a do or die battle between two great rivals, and there was a clash on the sideline between the players as well. Some members of both the Cork and Tipperary management teams got involved as well!

I find it amazing that Carlton have never played Melbourne in a grand final. Both clubs have 19 premierships between them, and are the two oldest footy clubs in Melbourne.

We nearly had a Carlton and Melbourne grand final in 1987, but of course Jim Stynes ran across the mark and the rest is history. The AFL pumped a serious amount of cash into Melbourne to make them competitive, but they were happy to leave Fitzroy die.

I think Carlton actually bought some shares in North Melbourne back in the 90's. I think we still could have held ownership of those shares, when they beat us in that 1999 grand final!
29 mate.

Yeah the blues did own some of North which is quite bizarre when you think about it. The league don't want to lose Melbourne being one of the big traditional clubs in the past plus having links to the MCC although they nearly did merge with Hawthorn. Collingwood nearly took over Fitzroy at one point to.

Its a grounds thread so better get back on topic. I've been to AFL grounds, MCG, Marvel Stadium and the Gabba. All good the MCG is the standout.

Would not recommend a trip to Uherske Hradiste, to watch FC Slovacko.

Can’t see a thing

God i meant to say 29 and i say 19 instead my bad! I never knew that the Pies nearly took over the Lions. I guess this was during the 80's when both clubs were having financial problems.

I know a lot of the Blues fans on Bigfooty are fairly indifferent about the Marvel Stadium, but you like it and to be fair stadiums like the MCG are sort of a once off. It's probably unfair to the Marvel Stadium to compare it to a colosseum like the MCG.

Metricon Stadium formerly Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast, comes across to me as a nice atmospheric little ground. I watched a 1992 season (if the channel Blues 4 Eva ever goes down, it will be an absolute disaster!) game there on Youtube between Carlton and the former Brisbane Bears. It was a small crowd obviously but it made for a unique atmosphere.

When Fitzroy was in huge trouble a couple years before Brisbane merged with them. Fitzroy and Collingwood are suburban neighbours so sort of made sense but our offer was to just have a lion on our shorts and that was it. Prett lame really.

I have actually been to Metricon a few times. Forgot about that one when I mentioned the grounds above. I like the stadium as it is nice and open and easy to move around. Would be good if the suns can get better and fill the ground out. Only ever seen it half full at most. Leaving the ground after a game can be a pain though.

Outside of Goodison, what are your favourite grounds?
Trying to plan a trip for the Spring and trying to visit a couple different stadiums.
Always have thought Craven Cottage would be decent to visit
Blackburn. Hospitable locals, nice vibe and real supporters.
