no surprises I voted James McCarthy. Like others have stated he and Fer could be a new look central midfield pairing. Wanyama is also good and would fit in nicely IMO. But so is Banega and Honda, although I do view them as more attacking.

So basically any two of the above and I would be happy.

But if he got a clause then we have no control over when Arsenal take Fellaini.

I think the clause will have a time element to it. He can go when a price is triggered in a certain period but it goes up thereafter if a deal isn't agreed...that'll concentrate the minds of buyers! I dont know that, but it's the only thing that makes sense considering we have a new man in charge who the board know will have to have time to bring in new players and blend them in pre-season.

There'll be no 'few bob' extra on top of player sales, as Billy Liar stated. We'll recycle as per usual regardless of new tv cash.

I doubt the TV money will have little to any effect to be honest

Interesting that the list of replacements is mainly defensive minded midfielders.

When we've played Fellaini as a forward about 90% of his time here.

Replacing a forward with a midfielder seems a bit odd to me.

I'm a big James McCarthy fan, but I also like DaveK's suggestion of Wanyama.

21 years old and an absolute man mountain.

Not sure if he's cultured enough for Martinez though, doesn't quite seem his type of player.

I know plenty on here love Fellaini, but I personally would find his sale a positive.

Good player, but only on his day which to be honest isn't all that often. Very inconsistent.

I think we could spend that money better and end up with a better squad.

I will second that

Out of the players you listed I'd be pleased with Wanyama, Honda, Fer and Benega, I can't say I know an awful lot about the others but I trust they're good players. I'd be fairly pleased with McCarthy too, just depends on the price.

If Gibson is going to be the deepest lying midfielder then we'll need someone with a bit of defensive ability next to him as Osman was far too easily bypassed many times this season, so I don't think someone similar to him would be a great idea.

Just wanted to clarify this a bit further.

I just feel replacing a player we generally play as a forward with a midfielder weakens our already insanely weak forward line.

However, if it's sell Fellaini and replace with a midfielder AND a decent forward. Then yeah. That makes more sense.

I think McCarthy has been hyped way beyond his ability, I think he's nothing better than decent tbh.

I can't really comment on Wanyama as I've only seen him in a handful of CL 'cup finals' & haven't watched him in the Scottish league.

You're being harsh on Fellaini there imo, he's not very inconsistent when played in his natural position, he's also unique, he brings a unique combination of skills & natural attributes to the side that no other PL midfielder can match. He'd waltz into any midfield in that division & improve it. So, whilst I think your assertion that we could improve the squad with the cash is correct, I doubt we'll improve the side. Losing him will cost us points, no doubt for me.

Should be able to do that with the cash surely? You'd have to be pretty careless to come out of these deals with an inferior squad.

I'd say almost impossible. You could have a Fer and Bony AND have a few million change for a Redmond for one Fellaini.

He has to be sold for me.

That's a fair point.

I feel we need a CM pretty desperately as Osman is useless there when he doesn't have the ball. Maybe Martinez sees Barkley in his first team plans this season, or he'll likely bring in one or two attacking players. He made a point about squad rotation when he arrived so I'm hoping we're going to have a change from Moyes' approach of "Stick with <insert player name> until they drop dead".

In all honesty, I'd be fine with the board hoarding the money for this season and then spending it in 14/15 once Martinez has had a chance to settle in

That being said, it's more likely they'll hoard it and we'll never see it again

Based on what?

There's currently no outside pressure to pay down debt & they've never had any cash reserves during their tenure, so there's no precedent whatsoever to suggest 'hoarding' is the most likely outcome.

Its bollocks stop taking news stories as gospel felliani won't be going to a team that doesn't win cups put it that way

He's got no fixed fee release clause therefore the story is bollocks chelsea were apparently stepping up interest in January yet no contact made load of rubbish
