I like Ferguson, but in that sentimental Everton way it shouldn't come into it.
I was impressed with how he carried himself in his last stint as caretaker, he spoke with thoughtfulness and maturity. He represented the club in the manner I want it to be represented by the manager in dealings with the media and others.
I have no doubt he understands the anger and passion of the fans.
On the other hand, he has been associated with a succession of failed regimes now. He can't carry the can for that but at any point did he not consider it best to separate himself from this and try to develop a coaching/management career on his own initiative? Like getting jobs and succeeding at them by his own merit? Doing the normal progression through the leagues. Then being a contender for the job here by his own record.
As much as he brings a sense of passion and fist-pumping which we badly need, this comfort zone that he inhabits does not sit well with me. If he is not a contender for the job this time around, then it's becoming incredulous that he stays on yet again under another manager. If he was happy to stay on, then I think it proves a point. There is a huge difference between a temporary caretaker role and the white heat of the managers seat in a permanent role, not that that means anything for this club.
All that said, I will be willing him and the team on this Saturday and every other game with all I've got. I don't think I've enjoyed and felt as good after a game as I did for the Chelsea game since Martinez' first season. Give us some more of that and he can hold his head high.
