Totally and that's the way it should be, but IF this team is as good as many of us think and this manager is as good as some of our fans think then that should be the target mate, none of this settling for 8-10th as long as we are above the rs guff that we are soemtimes guilty of

This team is better than Uniteds, Saints or West Hams, in fact its better than all but 4 teams in the league IMO, 2-4th and Chelseas, it's time they started to play and prodcue results that showed that, We have a feel good factor with the new owners and a lot of the Anti martinez crowd will be willing to give him a chance to turn this around, its up to him now to grab his cojones and stop talking and do it.

If we beat Cheslea in the cup - whcih really we should be doing, then potentially the only better team than us left in it will be Arsenal (if they navigate the replay and next round as well), 5-7th and the cup should be the goal now and anything less is a failiure really
Agreed, they're only so high though because they've got boss keepers and in west hams case a fluke season. Tbh we've played well for most of the season, usually dominating and tearing teams apart but was let down by the utter buffoon in goal which in itself is on Martinez. No doubt we would've been top 4 if the keeper issue was sorted months earlier. We do the hard part of scorin with ease

It's going to be hard getting top 7 I reckon. Before our mini revival of 3 wins in 4 we were 12th. After tonight we could still be there. I feel that too many teams above us need to go on a bad run and for us to have a great finish. I just can't see it happening. It's certainly not in our own hands as some are suggesting.

With two good cup runs I'd be very happy with 7th this season, given the atrocious luck we had off refs adding minutes and goals to the opposition that weren't there to hamper our forward progress for much of the season.

The style of football has been sensational at times and the overall level of performance very high - which we deserved more points from.

What about the fact we spent the first half of the season playing without a goalkeeper? It's annoying to think we could genuinely be in the mix for 4th if we'd been playing one that whole time

5th would be phenomenal given our home form up to present.
6th would be almost as incredible.
7th would be acceptable.
As for next season, depending upon how the new investment impacts upon the squad in terms of the only 'outs' being aging/injury prone/journeymen and one or two exciting additions, anything lower than 6th would likely be viewed as disappointing.

Phenomenal hahahaha. Is that you Bobby? Are you in a great moment?

Beginning of the season, had somebody told you that we'd finish top eight (not saying we will like but basing it on your post), we'd get to the semi-final of the lg cup, get to (at least) the last eight of the FA Cup (who knows what will happen with that), be taken over, play some of the best attacking footy we have seen since the 80s, had Barkley getting double figures and Lukaku breaking two goalscoring records, would you say that it had been a bad season?

No, you wouldn't have.

It has been a frustrating season due to the fact of the under performance of the usual big-guns, and teams like Leicester and Spurs being able to take advantage of that. Unfortunately we haven't, but at this stage with 11 games to go we're still in with a shout of getting a European spot. That's how tight it is.

funny how claim to be able to read other people's minds.

finishing mid table would mean its been a poor season - period. trying to mask that with the fact that there's been takeover isn't fooling anyone. nor is a half decent cup run.

Goal needs to be 6th. If we finished 8th given some of the points we've thrown away this wouldn't be the end of the world. Bigger issue is we need to do whatever it takes to keep Rom and Stones this summer, and if 8th with new contracts for more $$ does this then I'm fine with it.

Before the season i said 8th would be fine as long as young players were being played and one or two brought through. Obviously we now know we have a future star in Galloway and also Stones, Deulofeu, Barkley and Lukaku have been given a huge amount of game time which can only help their development.

With Mori cementing a place in the starting line up and Besic showing what he can do + all the deadwood primed to leave in the summer it has been what i expected really,

"A transitional season".

If we win our game in hand then we sit 7th. Now before the seasn started i was already looking at next season and thinking if we hit 8th and miss out on Europa league then next year we go for top 4 without that distraction.

But if we have the money behind us now then i hope ee can finish 6th or 7th and get Europa as we can sign the right players in the summer to do some damage in both competitions.

I just want us to go for top 4 next season.
