Financial Fair Play investigation

Slightly controversial segue but did Martinez do so badly for you guys?

I've been looking at wage bill rising under him and post him, plus amortisation and was it so bad? European run and Cup runs too, quite attractive if leaky football from the outside.

Otoh he did have Stones, Deulofeu and Lukaku.

Genuine question, how has points deductions stabilised any clubs? Surely it destabilises. Or is it a case of the EFL need to damage a few clubs to keep the rest inline?

That's not controversial AT ALL.

It's not intended to stabilise its intended to punish.
It's intended to punish and limit competition to 'top' teams.

And it can also encourage the removal of talent from non-'top' teams cheaply into 'top' teams.

It's as bent as a nine bob note. A vice masquerading as a virtue.

The PL showed all that in their non-response to the 'top' 6 clubs holding a knife to their throat with the Euro scab league.

We've not been punished yet Dave. I don't think Man United and Co are that concerned with Reading tbh nor will they poach any of their players

He was a mixed bag, the side he inherited had a good defensive dogma from Moyes, Martinez then had the team playing some really good attacking togger off that,, in the second and third seasons, that defensive unit started to fade away and steadfastly refused to practice defensive techniques and we shipped goals. He refused to practice defending corners and we were woeful and conceded loads from corners. Funny that, who'd have thunk it. Shame as if we were a little bit tighter at the back it could have been a whole load different. He

I'm talking about our case.

We'll see what this Kanagaroo Court decides in the summer. Personally I think the whole referral was down to short term stuff like Masters looking to avoid awakward questioning in a Commons Select Committee.

Is it true that Everton have been cooperating/working with the EPL over the past 18 months about what they could and couldn't spend due to FFP? From the 1.7m Benitez summer to now, have the EPL given us the go-ahead for spending?

If this is the case, surely Everton have a fairly strong case. The EPL could have told them at any time that they needed to sell Pickford, or not buy Onana to comply with FFP. How can they now be punished?

That's just a layman's opinion. I dunno!

We won't know until the case is explained properly but it could be that we have been working with the League and then when we showed our actual financial records for the year we hadn't been completely transparent with them. Bit like what has just happened with Reading and the EFL.

But until we hear the actual charges we won't have a clue of what we've done and if we have done wrong to what extent.

Not really. We'd barley spent under Moyes and had a good run with TV money finishing in the top 10 most years, and selling players for decent money.

Martinez finished 5th, 11th, 12th. League and FA Cup semi final, Europa last 16. Sold Fellaini and Naismith for a total of £50+mill. Didn't have anyone on £100k a week. So there was a little kitty. Spent between £30-£50mill each of his 3 seasons.

Wasn't until Moshiri came in when wage to turnover hit 90%, multiple players on £100k a week, £300+mill spend on transfers.

As a manager he benefited from Moyes' defensive core and added flair to it. 2nd season he got his feet under the table to play more his "style" which ended up being ball possession, lack of stamina, and a leaky defence where you'd have to score 3 to win a game.

He's a very good cup manager and is probably more suited to international management IMO
