browsing national forums concerns me a lot. Palace fans saying "Everton cheated their way up the table", liverpool/united fans saying "they need to hurry up and punish Everton and Man City". Appreciate that everyone is great at whataboutery but the national opinion does concern me a little.

Cheated our way up the table to the lofty height of barely avoiding relegation.

I’d expect nothing less from rival fanbases.

But their opinions tell us nothing of the level of jeopardy we face from the ruling of an independent commission.

I understand its a complex issue, with far-reaching implications.

But seriously? Why so much cloak and dagger? Do they have just 1 fella/woman doing the maths with their fingers or something?

How can it take so long, FFS.
I think it’s the precedent that’s the complicating factor.

The way this is handled has repercussions for the future. Especially the comparatively enormous Manchester City case.

There will be an awful lot of scrutiny coming the league’s way and I suppose they are just prepping for that.

I get that mate, its pretty huge, so why take so long? I am not naive, I know its not as easy as this, but both sides have presented their case, look at the evidence and bobs your uncle, I would have had this boxed off in a morning and in Maccies at Dinner Time celebrating a job well done.

Bored bored bored.

The only reason it can be taking them so long to reach a decision is that they’ve asked some of the var lads to get involved and have a look at our books.

I mean, who knows? It’s all so obfuscated, as you say.

I’m not even clear who decides the punishment. I know the commission decides on our guilt or innocence, and I know the league has apparently leaked what they consider to be a maximum punishment, but who decides what we ultimately get?

Presumably the scale of our culpability dictates the scale of our punishment. Assuming the league has final say on that, the calibration of the punishment is the bit that will be taking the time, I reckon - and it’ll probably be more about what precedent it sets for more serious offenders like City.

I stand to be corrected, but my understanding is that once it's been referred to an independant commision then THEY decide on guilt/innocence AND any proposed punishment. 🤷‍♂️

That's the way football does it. Unlike rugby league, union and cricket who are far more transparent, the football powers that be are so up themselves that they need the power trip of sticking two fingers up to any attempt at collaborating/common sense.
