Financial Fair Play investigation

If a points deduction causes us to be relegated I'll take some comfort from the fact that the relegation is tainted.

We have a proud record and it will end on a technicality, an unfair one at that, and not on a football matter.

I stand to be corrected, but my understanding is that once it's been referred to an independant commision then THEY decide on guilt/innocence AND any proposed punishment. 🤷‍♂️
Yes, but with the PL busily whispering in their lugholes while the Commission conducts their independent deliberations.

You may well be right. But if the league gave them a maximum or recommended punishment as has been reported, it suggests they don’t have entirely free rein.

I think it’s the precedent that’s the complicating factor.

The way this is handled has repercussions for the future. Especially the comparatively enormous Manchester City case.

There will be an awful lot of scrutiny coming the league’s way and I suppose they are just prepping for that.
We will not be the first for this.

I suspect we have a clear cut infraction against us that would have the capability of creating a clear precedent for any future punishments.

Given, a government regulator coming in, then that's a baseline that will soon vanish from the PL's control to fiddle with in case a rs/ united/ scum 6 get their collar felt.

A suspended points deduction still gives leeway. Even an offer of an either/ or option between points or financial penalty.

I suspect that such an idea if floated to the greater public might prove acceptable rather than the PL's leak of a hard stance.

Anyway if we're innocent there's no problem is there?

This decision is taking so long not because they know what punishment (if any) they want to give to us but more for what follows from other clubs.

I believe whatever happens this will still go on for a long time with appeals from ourselves if punished or (don’t know if they can) if other clubs could appeal PL decision if we get off lightly.

The international break was always going to be the announcement period.

The club probably knows the decision already and many people outside it.

The leaks will come thick and fast after the final whistle of the Palace game.

I believe both parties have a right to appeal. But it would be the Premier League as an organisation, if anyone, who could appeal us being found innocent.

Even then, it only goes back into the same machine and not a higher court so 🤷‍♂️ if anything changes.

But could they appeal in that case only if they believed the independent commission incorrectly investigated the suspected issue or new evidence had emerged?

I can't remember the specifics, someone posted the relevant section from the rulebook and all that stood out to me was that either party could appeal but only to the same commission or a new commission of the same standing.

And only on the emergence of new evidence.

Even if it goes back to the Premier League, it has to be agreed by more than 14 teams before they can take any action anyway. I have a feeling that there are a few teams, not including us, who would like to see as little action as possible, just in case it does actually set a precedent.....
