Financial Fair Play investigation

I’d argue this is our first breach. The exceptions allowed for Covid prevented us from breaching the rules previously.

We've been skating on this ice. Our COVID figures are massively overinflated and we got away with it, hence why we went to the headmasters office at the PL.

We've made progress and as the Esk estimates we made a £50mill loss last season which compared to the £120mill loss the season before, it's pretty good going. However, to get out of any FFP breaches we would've had to have made a profit, and a big one (like an Anthony Gordon one for eg) to keep them at bay.

But when our wage to revenue is still in the high 90% bracket... we're always gonna be pumped.

They allowed it to be counted. Now - after the club has complied to a point where they're back on track - they've changed their tune.

I dont think any commission can ignore that confusion on behalf of the game's authority.

So I cant see any draconian punishment on the basis of what I'm reading.

Our biggest danger isn't this commission's finding, it's losing our focus for the next 10 games.

Maybe the league realised they were taken for fools, we all laughed at the club pulling a fast one with those losses being put down to Covid and then getting away with it. I agree you can't just sign off on it and then go back on it a year later, I don't know why they've done that.

Staying up this season won't be a problem, it's a case of hoping we're not starting on minus next season.

i may not have got A* at math gcse but even i know 205 - 56 is not less than 105

so where is villa's charge?

I don't know how they've accounted for the rest of it. Maybe infrastructure spends that fall within the parameters. They only claimed 56 mill was Covid related though which is far more realistic than 170.

£190m loss, over the same period ours was £372m. They could theoretically claim £90m due to covid and be absolutely fine. Still don’t know how we got away with blagging £170m covid losses.

Hence why we've been sent to the indie commission.

I'll say this... because we're so poorly ran, we could've sold Richy and Gordon in the same window and probably dodged this and be in the same position in the league.

The Esk estimates say we're in excess of £59million. That's Chelsea's Gordon "bid" in the summer.

They never said that Everton will never be referred for all eternity, and they definitely didn’t give Everton the go ahead to breach the rules without consequence for evermore.
My position is not that Everton should avoid pounishemnt for transgressing - they should and they no doubt will. That's a separate matter though from Everton complying this season with the PL and the PL apparently telling others that we were ok.

All in all that has to impact on the nature of the punishment. IMO it should be no more than a hefty fine. If they impose an embargo on transfer that's draconian enough. A points deduction effectively kills us next season, so they surely cant be contemplating that handing thatb out, especially after Everton were co-operating fully with any inquiry AND working with the PL to come back into line on FFP.

But that’s including the Gordon sale in January isn’t it? So selling him for £60m in the summer instead would’ve only made us £20m better off than we are now. Regardless I don’t think they ever bid £60m.

Does that include the 170 Covid figure or the real one?

Apparently the Kean money can be thrown on the pile as well.
Has the Richarlison, Gordon and Kean money gone the same was as the Arteta cash?

It's going to be the 'angry birds' stadium isn't it, and 6 days a week 'angry turds' over the road...

Why would anyone “want” to be clobbered by a points deduction?? I’m absolutely livid that it’s even a possibility.
I don’t think it’s a possibility…..if they provide a club like ours with a points deduction, they’d have to practically drop City a division or two if found guilty of the numerous charges - this would risk the possibility of a breakaway league again. I think at most it’s a one or two window transfer embargo….more likely a hefty fine

It should. But there was that scramble to sell Richy before the 30th June for it to be put on the books. So who knows.

Put yourself in the shoes of a Burnley fan though. If it’s shown we broke the P&S rules, they will understandably claim that we gained a sporting advantage.

in their opinion it’s probably a very different punishment that is suitable.
