Well a positive we can take from the game. Whenever Moyes needs to wonder which area of the field needs strengthening, he only needs to put that match on and its plain to see. All our weaknesses were evident, and more!

So at least we now know who to drop.

if he did that, excluding tim howard, he would think he needs a whole new team...just an off game, every side has them, just this is such a bitter pill to swallow with it being such a big game.. lescott was [Poor language removed], but you cant say he is a weakness..the referee didnt help, our game is to hustle teams and win the ball, but every little bit of contact the ref blew for, ruined our game plan.

need to change that signature, like [Poor language removed] gold dust them things where...ended up in the basketball arena, anyone else in there?

boring

crap weather, crap team performance, crap italian police (no organisational skills) and on the whole I found most of the Fiorentina fans to be idiots. Pulling a knife on me and my mrs (wearing no colours) having a coffee at 3pm in the afternoon confirmed what a crap trip this turned out to be.
Thank goodness for the ryanair penny flights.
Hope we do them at Goodison and our police treat them like the scum they are (in Italy its only the Ultras who travel away - they are the problem with Italian football).

Spot on.

I remember Manchester United losing to Manchester City not too long ago.

That right no good thinking about the Fiorentina match now we are not out of it and still have a chance to make it through, but we should work on the Sunderland match to prepare ourselve for the home leg against Fiorentina.

It would be a completely different Everton team at home, it would be great if Fiorentina think they could walk through, that would suit us and we would beat the hell out of them.

Fiorentina is honestly not as strong as we think we were still able to create opening even though we play way below par so who know?

Back in one piece - no stabbing up the arse or anywhere else.

What a thoroughly miserable experience starting with the lead up to the game, poor policing, very disrepectful Fiorentina fans - we were spat at on the way to the ground by idiots looking for trouble :(

Awful stadium, terrible weather, abysmal performance, need I say more?

The only one enjoying him/herself was Mrs the esk by the looks of things

also had a miserable time, i lost my wallet on the wednesday, which had all me euros in, me cards, me season ticket, the lot, took hours up them shitty backroads looking for me shitty hotel, no tickets, weather was [Poor language removed], knobheads robbin beers from the irish bar forcin us to get kicked out, police were tossers who seemed worse than the locals...wont be going back to italy in a hurry

I looked after Mrs The Esk for you pal.

Sorry to hear it was [Poor language removed], aswell as the game. Had a nice meal last night spoiled by a table of Italians in their 20s who were rude and up their own arses, without being too much of a melt I let them know they would get it unless they shut up. Thing is, I went to Venice and the locals were spot on - its the young lads, theyre [Poor language removed] belters.

Unbelievable what happened to you Madar, what the [Poor language removed] is all that about.

My trip was a bit less traumatic than most by the sounds of it, apart from the match that is. As soon as I arrived on Wednesday I left Pisa airport and went to visit family, returning Thursday lunchtime when I met up with friends who had come on the day trip. Their plane had a group turfed off because they were kicking off about no booze being available in flight. Not a good start to the day.
I only spent half a day in the city but saw no hassle or problems, we went for a meal and there were a few lads getting gobby perhaps because they were rather drunk but no real trouble.

The match was something I never want to experience ever, ever again. To say that this was a throwback to the Eighties over here is an understatement. The weather conspired against us too so everyone was soaked to the skin and freezing. No need to go into the detail of how many checkpoints we had to go through, enough has been already said.

The whole thing was chaotic. I got chatting to one of the stewards at half time while sheltering and he was saying that they just didn't know what to expect. The police stood back (as far as I could see but maybe others had closer encounters) and watched once we were all inside but their presence was very ominous indeed.
I was at an advantage being able to speak the lingo and I was amazed how many times the stewards and even the waiter in the restaurant mentioned 'you're from Liverpool' then sort of shrugged their shoulders as if to say ' so what do you expect'. Seems like we have a lot to thank our neighbours for!
Some of the factors that made it such a crap trip -

The policing was OTT but not unusual for any team from England or indeed visiting Italian supporters from certain teams (so they told me). Someone else has mentioned that only Ultras go to away matches over there.

They don't understand the culture of drinking large quantities of beer so had no real idea how to manage it. People tend to drink alcohol when they eat rather than just go out to drink. Though I'm told a lot more young people do 'just drink' than used to be the case.

The reputation of others made them assume the worse from us.

SOME of our own didnt really help our image by their behaviour in the city or indeed pushing and shoving young children while shouting at the police.

The no drink on sale was not observed and most people could get a drink if they had something to eat as well. They were even selling beer inside the ground!

I've read a lot of things on various posts ranging from 'Italy stinks and is a shithole' to 'the match experience was awful but enjoyed the city'.

All I will say to those who had a bad experience in the city is that in general, Italians are welcoming and friendly people. Don't be put off going there by two days' experience in what were, unusual circumstances. Italy, however, is not like the UK, the police are different, the culture of drinking is different and there are a lot of social problems to do with illegal immigrants, beggars, sustance abuse and political instability. The country is, as it often is, in turmoil but still has plenty to offer. I saw changes for the worse and it's certainly not the country I left many years ago.

Perhaps I see things slightly differently because of my family background but for those of you who had such an awful time, please don't dismiss a whole country and it's people on the basis of what was for most of us, an horrific experience just prior, during and after the match. ..........and don't get me started on our team's performance, that, for me, was THE worst part of the trip!

Italy is my favourite European destination by far. I can endorse everything Bluelass says, I remember a couple of years ago chatting to a guy about how good I thought Zola was, he staggered me by mentioning Dixie, I was gob smacked. The Italians are the friendliest in Europe based on my experiences round the continent, S Italy being better than northern Italy they are far less sophisticated(y)
