Flat feet

I've got fallen arches (flat feet) and for as long as I can remember I've been wearing UK size 12 trainers even though the wide shoes I bought are size 10½. It means I'm less likely to blow over in a gale but it also means I have to wear two pairs of socks to stop my feet from sliding forward and back inside.

I was going to add a lot more but thought I'd ask who else suffers the same and what measures you've taken?
I'd worry more about the size m8, no wonder they're flat 🫣

I was sent to a podiatrist by my doc, when I realised I had flat feet. As I walked in the podiatrist said, "yeah they're flat .... I bet you have knee problems too."

Damn right. I'd suffered from patella tendonitis for around 15 years into my 30s until this fella made some inserts for my shoes that encouraged me to arch my feet. My tendonitis cleared up in a matter of days. It's to do with knee rotation caused by fallen arches.

I'd been to the docs multiple times about my knee problem before giving up and just tolerating it With pain killers on his advice. It was agonising after and during sport.

That doc probably robbed me of a pro football career. At least that's what I told myself. 😆

…in the event of a war, you’re unlikely to be called-up ;)

I've got NHS insoles too. I have to remove the insoles of whatever shoes I've got because I can't use the NHS ones on top. I found out today that I have to pay for them now and that they aren't bespoke as I assumed they were.
Mrs Lobworm lashed mine out with my old shoes. Fewwwming.

My issue was exacerbated by plantar fasciitis which came and went until I had acupuncture about 4 years ago.

Go and see a podiatrist mate, it’s worth the money to get things sorted out.

I can recommend a very good one if you’re in the North West 👍

Yeah righto, I'm not a fatty or anything but I had some issues with my right foot and it turned out it was a flat foot causing one of the midfoot joints to rub together and basically cause the joint to be arthritic, I was going to get custom orthodics made but was quoted over $1200 for them so have just ignored it for the last 2 years or so and it hasn't got any worse.
I should have mentioned that I was staying in Tennessee (Bristol) where, if you didn't own a car, you didn't get go anywhere, so the lack of exercise is understandable. My American daughter-in-law is a nurse practitioner and I suppose her high wage reflects the cost of medical care over there.

What age bracket are you and how do you feel about having to just put up with it for however long you might have to? To us Brits it seems shocking that those suffering in other countries have to pay for medical care we need it. It's not free because we pay a National Insurance - we just don't get billed after being discharged from a NHS hospital. At my age more and more friends and relations are in need of various care: two broken hips and another three hip replacements already in 2024!

Out of interest, NI does contribute but most of the funding comes from general taxation, e.g. income tax.

I used to get knee pain too. I also wear down the outsides of the heels of shoes. I rarely wear shoe shoes - being retired I can wear what Iike, which means trainers/sneakers which are generally more forgiving. I just have the one pair of black, wide-fit shoes for weddings and funerals.

I'm in London but thanks anyway. Reading replies here I am less in need of specialist care than most as my problem is having wide feet that spread due to fallen arches. I only need insoles and wide shoes.
