Flat feet

I should have mentioned that I was staying in Tennessee (Bristol) where, if you didn't own a car, you didn't get go anywhere, so the lack of exercise is understandable. My American daughter-in-law is a nurse practitioner and I suppose her high wage reflects the cost of medical care over there.

What age bracket are you and how do you feel about having to just put up with it for however long you might have to? To us Brits it seems shocking that those suffering in other countries have to pay for medical care we need it. It's not free because we pay a National Insurance - we just don't get billed after being discharged from a NHS hospital. At my age more and more friends and relations are in need of various care: two broken hips and another three hip replacements already in 2024!
Who's this, a 'kin octopus?

I used to get knee pain too. I also wear down the outsides of the heels of shoes. I rarely wear shoe shoes - being retired I can wear what Iike, which means trainers/sneakers which are generally more forgiving. I just have the one pair of black, wide-fit shoes for weddings and funerals.
Oh go on then, I'll ask.
Want to explain this a little more please?

Waling about barefoot a bit more can reshape your foot over time as it's more natural (maybe not practical though) you can correct it with surgery if it's really bad but it's brutal by all accounts so that's maybe a last resort thing.

I'd worry more about the size m8, no wonder they're flat 🫣
It doesn't help that I'm overweight. Went to America and ate too much peanut butter and ice-cream (not together) pizza and the like but got in a lot of necessary walking and only put on a couple of pounds, which I lost after a couple of days back home. Didn't have any alcohol other than on the plane both ways (good old American Airport and their endless supply of Merlot 🍷) so therein lies the answer.

We've got wood floors and I never wear shoes indoors; I'm often barefoot but now I have the right size thick socks I tend to wear those. I can't walk far without my insoles though before it gets painful. IMG_20240503_110026443~2.webp

I have terrible flat feet/fallen arches AND massive bunions (thanks gran). I cannot bring myself to wear crap trainers though, I just grin and bear/bare it

I can see my sons feet slowly going the same way.

Stupid genetics

I always assumed bunions where caused by wearing shoes that were too small/tight. Mrs TT hasn't got bunions but her 30-something daughter has.

They are genetic but not helped by my choice of footwear for 50 years. “Cool” Trainers generally gave crap support for fallen arches which in turn adds to the bunion issue. I did get some orthotics but they meant I no longer fitted in to any of my trainers (I have a lot of trainers) and I was not going to start buying bigger ones.
