I should have mentioned that I was staying in Tennessee (Bristol) where, if you didn't own a car, you didn't get go anywhere, so the lack of exercise is understandable. My American daughter-in-law is a nurse practitioner and I suppose her high wage reflects the cost of medical care over there.
What age bracket are you and how do you feel about having to just put up with it for however long you might have to? To us Brits it seems shocking that those suffering in other countries have to pay for medical care we need it. It's not free because we pay a National Insurance - we just don't get billed after being discharged from a NHS hospital. At my age more and more friends and relations are in need of various care: two broken hips and another three hip replacements already in 2024!
